Bsod

My father in law's laptop is getting BSOD more frequently.

The laptop is a Dell inspiron 1300, CELERON M PROCESSOR, 1 gb ram, Running XP with all updates. As far as I am aware there have been no changes to config apart from memory in an attempt to see if that was causing the issue

Any idea on where to start troubleshooting what is causing this BSOD, Replaced memory already.

Can I assume that it is a driver issue?

Hmmm windows update has installed drivers on me before and resulted in a borked machine. Can you do a roll back and see if that fixes the issue ?

Also,try altering startup. Go to start/ run and type msconfig. Under Startup Tab uncheck every box there and restart, if that clears it, you can re-enable one or two items and check again and so on. This way, you can isolate which program might be causing the BSOD, however from your info bcmw15.sys may be the culprit. This is a broadcom NIC driver, so are you using another method of connecting which might be causing a conflict between network access cards?

The NIC ? That's what did it to me. Windows had "recommended" updates that killed the system.

I hate NICs and their drivers - virtually the only problems I've ever had with computers since I've been playing with them have been NIC related.

Definitely try rolling back drivers, but you might want to install the ones on the CD again and then leaving them alone. I'd be tempted to disable the onboard altogether if you don't need it.

Everytime I got a DRIVER IRQ , it turned out to be a RAM issue. So, memtest your RAM!

Over the Easter weekend I removed the wireless drivers and replaced these with a fresh download from Dell site. So far no more BSOD's so it looks like it was a corrupted wireless driver
