Outlook Express to Outlook help Hi Fellas Need a bit of help here. I recently reinstalled my OS on a new drive. Now my emails are still on my other drive which Ive refitted and are resident in Outlook. How do I import from Outlook to outlook express, the import option doesnt work because it cannot see the mail store on the other drive. Any help please

Well, emails are stored in a file that is located in...... C:\Documents and Settings\'YOUR USERNAME'\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\'{YOUR CLSID NUMBER}'\Microsoft\Outlook Express I presume it is the same for outlook, just substitute the final directory outlook express to outlook. In there is a file called Inbox.dbx . Copy this file over to the outlook express 'application data' folder. This might work, I havn't researched it an' its just a wild guess, but you never know. To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

No, it won't natively, since it opens your Outlook mail store via the Outlook profile, which in this case was created under your "old" XP installation and doesn't exist under the new one. You should be able to install Outlook under the "new" install of Windows XP and setup Personal Folders to point to the .pst file used by your "old" copy of Outlook. You should be able to open Outlook normally, and you'll thus have a profile that OE can read and import via. Do your import to OE, then you can ditch Outlook.

Do you have "Do not show hidden files and folders" ticked? If so, you probably won't find it. Untick that and search your old drive again (under the Documents and Settings folder, old user profile name). BTW, the new copy of outlook won't generate a PST file unless and until you creayte a profile containing personal folders and you don't want it to unless and until you can point the service at the old .pst file.

You were using the Internet Mail service with Outlook, and using Personal Folders, correct? Can you actually get into the Documents and Settings\<old username> folder and subfolders on what's now your F: drive and view files and subfolders?
