    Maxtor says to shuttle: Error loading operating system

    Hi Guys - me again. Two threads in one day - things just arent going well......

    so i've got this shuttle sk83g all assembled, in bios looking good. (if souinding noisy)

    I boot from my xp cd, format and install. It gets the part where it needs to restart, and does so. But when it returns all i get is:

    " error loading operating system"

    Now i'm pretty sure it's something to do with this maxtor diamondmax plus 9 80gb , cos when i swapped in a quantum 10gb i installed XP just fine

    Ive changed the jumpers, cables, positions.

    Ive installed to the quantum and ghosted the image across

    no go

    BUT when i wiped the drive and put it in my rig (in sig), i could use it just fine!

    so why O why O why O cant i boot off this Maxtor ?

    Just say anything to me, i dont care how silly it sounds, i just need copany at this point: i'm frazzled :{

    thanks guys..

    It doesn't have to be your HDD that is physically causing you problems, it could be that the operating system files on it have been corrupted in some way.

    Your best bet is to pop the Maxtor into another PC and scan it for any surface errors first. If nothing shows up, try formatting the HDD again and reinstalling your OS.

    I'd personally recommend running this program from the maxtor website and checking the disc over ;

    http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...&downloadID=22

    phew - long link hey, if you follow the instructions on that website this will check the drive and see if its due to die

    i'd like to thank you 3 for taking the time to help - you're all stars!

    Well i fixed it in the end.Went and downloaded powermax ( was trying maxblast but that wouldnt boot?) and ran a low-level format. A speedy 11 hours later! and the drive finally worked! praise be!

    Lost alot of time making this comp, but i had the sense to finish the install on another drive, then clone it across (well i had to do something for 11 hours...) . Ironically that drive was a 5 year old Quantum 10gb. (maxtor bought quantum...) Go figure

    Well its all sorted now....just think i'll be sticking to seagates from now on....

    cheers guys
