| Dodgy DVD-r's ? Just purchased 25 Datawrite Yellow (V2) blank DVD-Rs. when I try and burn data with Nero (latest edition) I get immedaite write errors. I cannot burn one of these discs. I am using something similar to these: http://www.datawrite.co.uk/dvd/minus/4xyellow.htm can anyone suggest why my birner will not write to these? I am using an LG GSA-4082B. | What are you trying to write? DVD movie? Data? I have these disks and have found they're only good for data backup. Full DVD movies just screw up. | Well, if you are getting 'write errors' it's normally either the blanks or your drive. Just to exclude the software, have you tried writing them with a.n.other proggie (i.e. like Alcohol). Ditto, try them at a lower speed (i.e. 2x) and see what happens. There has been a lot of 'bad media' floating around, but normally you can spot it as 'runs of dye' across the recording surface of the disks - have you inspected them? Maybe try some of them in a different burner. Ditto, try some other blanks (I buy bulk cheap Arita G04's and have never had a single failure in my Pioneer 107.) I guess the only other things I could suggest is to make sure you have the latest BIOS installed in your DVD writer and make sure Nero is patched and up-to-date. Was this all working before, and has only just gone bad? Or...? | As you didn't mention it - are you copying disc to disc or writing from files on your HDD? If it's the former, I had the same kind of thing with Nero 6.3.0.2 only the error given was "unable to place data on media". Only solution at the time was to downgrade back to 6.0.x.x. No attempt was made to write data so discs were good to go again. Not bothered trying to see if it's been fixed in newer versions. |

| thanks for the replies, Its just the new blanks that won't burn, before these I had 100% pass rate with no coasters. With these new blanks (with G04 dye), I cant write anything; data, DVD movies, etc. This is all from copying off HDD. | my mate just bought some datawrite v2 disks and has the same problem. even after a firmware upgrade he couldnt write with them. What speed are the disks - it used to be that they would be something like 1x-6x or woteva - but i hear the new ones are set at a fast speed and can only be burnt at that speed and not lower. |

| well it looks like I am going to chuck these in the bin...only manged to burn one disc, after about 15 attempts. These are V2 yellow discs, it says 4X on them. Nero will only let me select 4X or 8X. What happend to 1X? Back to Ritek branded discs I think, more expensive (40p a disc!) but these will defo work (talking from experience). I also think I prefer +R than -R, probably just me [xp 2400 @ 133*13.5] [1Gb Twinmos DDR400 CL 2.5] [Abit NF7-s Rev 2.0] [Tagan 480W PSU] [2 x SATA Maxtor 120gb hdd - 1 x 80gb IDE Maxtor hdd - 1 x 80gb IDE Maxtor hdd] [Teac 4x Cdrw] [SonicFury S/C] [LG GSA-4082B DVD+/-RW] [Radeon 9600 np] [Zalman Al-Cu Flower - Arctic silver 3] [windows xp pro 2600 build] [3x 80mm case fans] |

| to update this thread, i just got myselkf some Traxdatas DVD-r's with the G05 dye, and these will not write either. Somehow me thinks there is compatability issues with G05 dye dye and the LG GSA-4082B. Yes i have latest firmware and, using nero latest and copying DVD data disc from hdd. Nero, Deepburner and CD burnerXP softwares do not work. Must be the drive. | One: Latest Firmware Two: If you use forceware drivers, make sure you REMOVE the nVidia IDE controller driver Three: Ensure you are using an ATA-33, 40 pin EIDE cable, possibly try a ribbon cable if you are using a rounded cable. To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer. |

| You don't have DMA enabled for all your devices. Enable it in the Bios, then in Device Manager, then use the Info Tool again. Whether or not this fixes your problem, you still need to enable DMA. |
