Xp system setup Hi guys ive currently got my system setup this way: 1st hard drive: <60gig 1 partition where i have windows and all programs installed to> 2nd hard drive:60gig partitiond 4 ways: <20gig for My Documents> <10gig for Ghost backups of the main drive> <10gig for downloads> <20gig for settings where i have my Favourites / System resources like walls and themes icons .etc / Cache / Cookies / History / TEMP / TMP stored> Ive setup the various through X-SETUP which allows me to change the route of the folders ,Do you think this is a good way to have it setup or not? Do you think it could be slowing my sytem down at all having it setup this way? Ive recently just upgraded to an athlon 3000 64 chip and 1gig of ram and gefroce 6600gt and have found it to be just as slow as my old setup which was half the performance of my new setup i have it setup correctly,Do you think it could be due to the way i have it setup with the various partitions .etc. Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance

I'm not really into partioning. I have two harddrives one for windows + instals. And one for files. If you second harddrives is slow, or onthe same IDE controller you might not gain much advantage from puttng the cahes on it. Although it good for the safly of your files.

Partitioning seems reasonable to me - did you do a complete XP reinstall when you upgraded? Sometimes there is nothing like a complete wipe and start again to get best performance. Having said that, unless you really have apps that were pusihing the system hard before, you're unlikely to notice much improvement in speed. I'd worry more about system tray icon type stuff (backgrouond apps) if your system 'feels' slow.

ive recently swapped from norton to avg free and sygate and ive had no probs and been pleased with all my newly freed resources ![]() but i personally would advise using a 10 gig partition for windows and apps, and maybe the other 50 gig for games and some docs or file storage. mine's like this 10gig windows and progs, 100 gig music, 100 gig vid, 50 gig games, 30 gig my docs/photos/downloads. hope it helps
