    PCMCIA Modem

I've been asked to look at a PCMCIA modem that won't work with a laptop. The modem is a Dynamode V90 56K PCMCIA Card Modem and the laptop is a Dell Latitude CPi.

When I plug the modem in, Windows 2000 detects it and installs Microsoft drivers. However when trying to dial out, or when I run the "Query Modem" option in Device Manager it fails with a "modem is not responding. this could be a hardware failure" type error message. I have also tried the drivers on the disc that came with the modem, and the latest download from the internet. All have the same problem.

For interest, I tried the modem in my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 2200 running Windows XP). It was detected by Windows, drivers installed (the drivers, although a different version and Microsoft certified etc. seem to be the same as Windows 2000 installed), and dialed up first time. So I concluded the modem itself is working.

The only other information I have under the Diagnostics tab is the Hardware ID which is PCMCIA\Intelligent-PCMCIA_FAX+MODEM-5F78.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing I can immediately think of is the drivers that run the cardbus (that the PCMCIA modem plugs into). Might be worth digging around in that area...
