Windows resets my speaker settings when I reboot

Whenever I reboot my PC windows seems to reset my speaker settings. If you go in to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices Under the Volume tab there is a section for the Speaker Settings. Click the Advanced button and you can change your speaker setup.

The setting in the drop down box never actually changes after rebooting but the setting clearly changes because the sound is quieter. To fix it I have to select another speaker setting ie Desktop Speakers, click apply, select 5.1 surround sound, click apply and then it is back to normal. However, this is extremely annoying when I have to do it every time I retart my computer! Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop windows from forgetting this setting? Any help would be much appreciated. Just to help you out a bit:

OS: Windows XP Home (same problem for Pro as well)
    Soundcard: Creative Audigy Platinum
    Speakers: 5.1 digital speakers

If you need any other specs let me know

Load up the creative software and do it through that.
There is also a option to sync the two. Im fairly sure that upon rebooting, the creative software is reseting it.

I just have the sound card drive installed. None of the extra apps. I'll try downloading the software that comes with the soundcard and see if that sorts it
