Having problems accessing some stuff with FF this morning

I'm having trouble getting on to and using a few sites this morning. It started with trying to use the WoW forums, although I could browse them fine, I could not post, I thought there must be a problem their end and thought nothing more of it until I tried looking at www.svp.co.uk this site will not work for me at all, only loads up the front page, and some of that is missing.

I tried updating my FF to 2.0, bit I still have the same problems, I can view and use the 2 sites fine using IE but they are no go using FF

2 other sites/pages I can't access with FF but ok with IE are gmail and firefox addons page. After trying to use/look at one of these sites FF is totally useless and I need to restart it to be able to view anything again.



Anyone else having problems this morning?

If the sites are fine in IE, then your problem is specific to FF surely ? Uninstall FF completely then reinstall if you insist on using it - personally I don't see what's wrong with IE7, I love it

Not tried IE7 yet, might give it ago in a bit.

I have tried uninstalling FF and reinstalled it, still no luck. Never had problems with any of these pages under FF before today.

Not going to help at all. What you need to do is remove your FF profile, which resides in C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%random folder name% - 'Application Data' is a hidden folder, so make sure you're showing all files.

Move the contents elsewhere on your hard drive, and FF will start a-fresh next time it loads. Import your bookmarks.html file if you want to keep them.

Done that before reinstalling

Can anyone else access those sites ok under ff?

Not sure about the forums but I just placed an order with SVP using FF2. Are you running through a proxy at all? Occasionally I have an issue when at work FF2 refuses to play happy with our Squid proxy, but IE works fine. Another thing that shouldn't make the slightest difference but has to be worth a whirl is clearing your temp internet files - hell, might work!

No idea if I am running through a proxy, not even sure what one is I'm at home and just using my netgear router as usual.

I did try deleted all temp net files, cookies and so on, but still no joy.

Can you access the FF addon's page ok?

Ok, a couple more sites I'm having troble with are www.abbey.com and www.idnet.net

I can access both sites fine until I need to enter some information, the IDNet site is my ISP site, the page that should come up to allowed me to enter my detials won't load, neither will the the section on www.abbey.com to access my online banking. So maybe it's a https problem?

Everything was working fine yesterday, I was using the web fine this morning then I got a auto update from FF asking me to restart as 1.5.0.8 had been installed, so I restarted it and that's when all my problems have begun. I installed 2.0 and I still have the same problem. uninstalled 2.0, deleted all profile information and reinstalled 1.5.0.8 with no luck.

No one else out there at all having problems with FF today?

Seems after a little searching FF is failing at dealing with SLL.

Anything I can do to stop that? I think it must be firewall related, only firewalls I have are the WinXP one and the one on my Belkin router.

Sorry, wasn't suggesting a fault anywhere in particular, just wondering. Any other IDNet customers that can confirm that this ISN'T an issue for them?

Have you changed any router/firewall settings? If not can you try switching off your router for a few minutes and rebooting?

I'v asked on the IDNet forums and people are using FF2 to do everything ok that I can't I've tried turning the firewall off on the router as well, this made no difference either.

Someone on the FF forums suggested that it was a SSL problem and gave me a SSL link that tests the browser, it failed the test.

Is there any ports I can open so that sites using SSL will be allowed access?


Thanks for the help I'm actually quite liking IE7 at the moment, quite a strange feeling.
