problem detecting ide hdds with asus p5w

    hi all,
    i've recently built this system:
    e6600
    asus p5w deluxe
    2 gig g.skill 6400
    2xoptical drives
    7 hdds.

5 of the hdd are sata drives. Which can be seen in windows xp pro sp2. 2 out of 5 i have created a raid 0 using ez manager (plugged into the two orange ports on the mobo).
I have a 750gig hdd which is plugged into the lone sata port near the cpu.

When i boot up the bios splash screen detects all hdds. If i go into bios i can see all the hdds including the ide ones.
After the bios splash screen a heading with jmicron controller pops up. It lists the 2 ide hdds with their capacities and the 750 gig hdd. All 3 has "non raid" as a label after them.

BUT in xp pro the ide hdds are nowhere to be seen!

    Any ideas?

    thanks

Go Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management(Local)

Does it appear there? if so you simply need to assign it a drive letter

If it doesn't recognise the file system there, then you have problems. (ie shows the drives as unformatted).

If it doesn't show the drives at all, then we know its a BIOS configuration issue

thankfully it didn't appear unformatted in windows just not at all lol

Turns out it was a bios issue, just messed about til it worked

Time for a beer to celebrate.
