    Looking to change my car

Well when I put this thread in OcUK motors forum I may aswell have not bothered, got flmaed for saying I want a diesel for my next car, people chose to bicker and argue in the thread so I never bothered with it again, looking through here, looks like the same sort of thign won't happen *touches wood*

Anyway, I found out last week that my current car, 1998 Nissan Almera 1.4 Si is rusting on me when I took her to autoglass to have the windscreen replaced, it appears the metal work that supports the windscreen is rusting away on me, it wasn't a very nice thing to see, I told them to rust treat it and then put the new windscreen on, and they did.

After much heart ache (I love the Almera to bits, it may not be the most exciting car in the world to some, but the best car I've had so far) and I really don't want to get rid of it, but I know if I hang on to her for another 12 months, and she is already on 96k miles, that when it comes to change her in I won't get very much for her, hoping to see at least £1000 for her. So I'm thinking its better to trade her in now whilst I can still get some decent money on it.

If my car is worth £1000, then I have in effect a budget of £4000, £1000 trade in value, and then I'll be taking out a £3000 loan from my bank.

I really wanted a Golf but I've decided that they aren't in my price range, well I can have a scabby one, but I'd be in a worse of position some time later on, so going to leave them well alone.

Although I would like a Turbo Diesel car (I do 1000 miles a month, sometimes more) but I would quite happily take another petrol car, if I could find another Almera with a lower milage and a few years newer and the same shape as the one I have now, perhaps the 1.6 SRI or an unmolested 1.8 GTI I'd jump all over one.

Anyway, I am going to look at some Skoda's tomorrow with a mate who reckons I can get a belter of a car for that sorta money, says Falmouth Diesels have a good selection of Fabia 1.9 SDI's

    your thoughts please lads

The 306TD fan club didn't come to the rescue ?

(FYI I have a love/hate relation ship with my pug - its get a lot of abuse and zero maintenance , but its a beater , thats all it deserves )

If you yearn for a golf but not for the price tag - what about the equivilent Seat ? I wonder how much Leon TDi's go for ?

Fabia SDi isn't bad, but at motorway speeds has very little left. The Fabia vRS on the otherhand, has plenty to give, and is simply a turbo charged version of the SDi

    Quoted for truth.

Add in the Ibiza or Leon TDi when looking too - slightly sub standard build quality (compared with the Golf/A3) but darn fine cars for the money.

Any Diesel car I looked at was way too much money, and some places would only give me £400 for the Almera, so settled on a X reg, 1 owner from new Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 LS with 50k miles on the clock for £4k 6n the screen price but was given 1k for the Almera so got it for 3k, very pleased, is a cracking car
