| Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad Hello Ive looked through alot of the threads on here about insurance, i need some help and advice, ive been looking for insurance all over the place, tried the comparison sites, and loads of other companies, and im getting rediculous prices, some almost reaching 3000 for TPFT! with my dad as the policy holder and me as a named driver, based on an old peugeot 106 1.1. Technically my dad has 9 years NC but thats being used on a different policy, so i cant use that on any others right? Therefore my dad would have 0 years no claims if startin a new policy with me on it. Is there anywhere i can get cheap insurance for a cheap banger ,cause insurance is just annoying me now, some prices are crazy. oh forgot to put im 17 (18 in 2 months) , passed test about 3 months ago and have Pass Plus Any help would be appreciated Thanks Mike |

| Re: Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad Those are a little on the ridiculous side, get your dad to ring up, as it'll likely be cheaper, or look at different cars (unless it absolutely has to be that one) Your classic boy racer mobiles have a really bad accident profile (106, 206,306, saxo, some fiestas, civic etc) and you'll find its cheaper on something else with a bigger engine. Try a quote on say, a 1.1 micra, you'll probaby find its a lot cheaper, or if thats too crap, a corolla/starlet 1.3. | Re: Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad 3000? My dad got me a fiesta mk4/1.3 when I was 17 and insured me on it before I even passed! It was about £1800/ year or something like that, but not even close to your 3000! That was 5 years, but even so I dont believe they could be that much higher! After I passed it started to plumet and has paid off as ever since then my insurance has dropped right down and now I pay about £35 a month for a MK6 1.8 Toyota Celica SR. Why dont you add it to your dad's policy as a 2nd car then you as the named driver? surely you can do this and get his no-claims bonus as well? I've seen adverts for this kind of policy. Ben |

| Re: Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad £3000 is way too much. Where do you live? Middle of Manchester?! As suggested, try going to a few sites rather than the comparison ones.... |

| Re: Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad DirectLine do, and they do a no-claims bonus for named drivers now. I'll say again.. Get quotes manually, 3 grand is at least twice what you should be paying. Insurance for young people IS expensive, hideously so, but if you're getting quotes higher than about £1600 then something's wrong somewhere Home cinema: Toshiba 42XV555DB Full HD LCD | Onkyo TX-SR705 | NAD C352 | Monitor Audio Bronze B2 | Monitor Audio Bronze C | Monitor Audio Bronze BFX | Yamaha NSC120 | BK Monolith sub | Toshiba HD-EP35 HD-DVD | Samsung BD-P1400 BluRay Player | Pioneer DV-575 | Squeezebox3 | Virgin Media V+ Box PC: Asus P5B | Core2duo 2.13GHz | 2GB DDR2 PC6400 | Inno3d iChill 7900GS | Auzentech X-Plosion 7.1 | 250GB | 500GB | NEC DVDRW | Dual AG Neovo 19" HTPC: | Core2Duo E6420 2.13GHz | 2GB DDR2 | 250GBx2 | Radeon X1300 | Terratec Aureon 7.1 | Windows MCE 2005 Laptop: 1.5GHz Centrino | 512MB | 60GB | 15" Wide TFT | Wifi | DVDRW |

| Re: Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad Getting the best insurance deal always has a bee a nightmare. I used to have access to insurance company systems, and could run my own inquiries on my own situation. About once a week, I ran a quote check given my own personal details. Nearly every time, the figure varied, often by quite a margin, and so did the cheapest insurer. And that was 25 years ago. Different insurance companies base their quotes on different criteria, and those criteria change over time, as does their target market. I spend several years insured by one major company for a BMW M3, only to be told the next year that they weren't even prepared to quote. There'd been no accidents or anything - they just changed the market they were interested in and no longer wanted high performance cars. As for £3000, yeah it seems high. But Mike, it isn't just based on the value or performance of the old Pug you're insuring, but on the potential cost of the Rolls, Merc or Ferrari you might bang up .... and of course, the potentially huge cost of personal injury. If £3k is the best you can get after hunting around (and some insurers quote high to effectively tell you they don't want you, so hunting IS worthwhile) then there'll be a reason why. I'm afraid the only way is to do the legwork, because a company that's cheap for someone mt age, in my area and with my circumstances (or a person your age living here) won't necessarily apply to you. |

| Re: Insurnace prices Driving Me Mad Try Quinn Direct? They seem to be quoting relatively good deals for younger drivers, although that's based on myself as a 21 year old. Handily, they give credit for a named driver having no claims (although with only a year tops, it's not going to have such a big effect for yourself). The other consideration is whether you need comprehensive insurance. If the car is cheap enough you might be better off getting third party, fire and theft and then if you do have an accident use the money you saved on the premium to repair/replace the car. Increasing voluntary excess will also have the effect of reducing the premium, although bear in mind that there is an extra excess for drivers aged 17-21. Personally, I've just gone with Admiral with my parents as second and third drivers. It's amazing how much that drops their quotes by (~£150). If you can't keep up, stick with reality... |
