Most painful one ever... was when I was putting a wheel back on the Landy, I slipped, dropped the wheel and caught myself by knuckling the front end of the rock-slider - which is basically an 'ard as nails bit of square bar welded in place of the door sills. "Owee!!" I exclaimed...

    Imagine this:

You're changing the clutch cable on a Clio 16v. It's getting dark, it's pissing it down and you've already been in the cold for 2 hours. The cable is held in place in the bulkhead by a plastic clip. You can push it through from the engine side, then once it's in place the clip pings out locking it in place. To push it back out you have to squeeze in two locators then knock it back through to the engine bay.

Whilst you're upside down in the footwell with a torch in your gob.

Now, since the pedal assembly is in the way, you can't hammer it.. so you have to use a pair of pliers to hold the locators back, then use a screwdriver to push the clip out. This was the original clip so was 10 years old and not wanting to budge.

I got annoyed, really put a load of effort in and it popped out. As it did, I slipped and gouged the skin clean off my index finger knuckle with the screwdriver...

These days if a job on the Clios don't draw blood myself and Doll don't consider it a job well done...

Strange thing about working on cars, especially when it's cold, is that you often don't realise you've cut yourself until you wonder where all that red stuff's coming from....

Observe very greasy mitts, then trace source of claret

I cracked myself a good one in the face when doing the clutch cable on a Mk2 Cav, was head 1st into the footwell holding the pedal with one hand n trying to get the clip in with the other, thought, hmm need 2 hands for this, n let go of the clutch pedal, a momentary laps in the brain to hands communication meant I forgot all about this gravytee thing and whack clutch pedal in face....

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

tried to fix the car alarm in me car (not really worth it but i wanted to for a laugh) - i replaced a fuse that had been removed and the alarm started going off. ok i thought, i'll turn the engine on. that didnt stop the alarm so i stick my hand into the engine back to whip the fuse back out and remove half the skin from it on the flywheel. oops..

Think I can win this one.....

4 poster drive on ramp. 6 foot up the in air, working on a 405 Turbo diesel doing a cam belt. Blasted cover will not go on, it's 20 minutes past going home time and I'm getting throughly stressed. So what do you do? Step away from the problem and have a breather.

Now the intelligent ones amongst you have realised that I was 6 feet in the air, and having stepped backwards, Mr gravity is going to want to play with me. However, what you haven't seen, as I've not mentioned it yet, is the Jacking pole in my path. A jacking pole is essentially a large steel pole you place under cars on lift when you need to raise bits of them up - in other words, the chances of it bending are VERY slim.

So, try to imagine the pain when i hit said jacking pole square on the cocyx (your tailbone). The ex-ambulance driver who lived across the road from the garage came running across cause he heard the scream.

    ROFLMAO!!! You're kidding right!!

If cars had followed the same developmental path as computers, a Rolls Royce would cost £60, get a million miles per gallon and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.
