Right! Time for a small update on this I think, its been far too long!

Well as you all know, i've moved house now and witht he calibra still engineless it had to be towed.
Two engines also had to be move and to be frank the whole day nearly killed me

Here she is up on the trailer

Finally its moved and on my new drive...

Unforutnately the beloved run around saab has popped its clogs on the M1 so its forced a speed up on the calibra

This weekend were hoping to have the gearbox and engine back in the cally so plenty to do

More to come at the weekend

I bet he blames having to tow your calibra and the extra strain is what made the saab pop its clogs.. did it pop while towing?

he might want the calibra as compensation..

with your level of know-how, I think you can easily fix the saab up as a secondary project, and keep us all amused till christmas...

well apart from the fact that the saab is mine and not my dad it doesn't really matter

i cant be bothered with the saab, its gone to a scrappy, off the drive to give me room for the cally. It did go whilst towing either.

When you want your crane back trig? if its ok ill be using it this saturday but i think after that I should be able to bring it back to ye

    Re: Calibra Progress *!= 56k*

Right well its 10 o clock and me and my dad have been finished for 2 hours, after starting at 8am

    Both knackered!

I apologise now for the quality of some of the photos as we were in a rush especially with the weather...

With the help of Trigs engine crane (cheers again matey) the engine was lifted ready for cleaning...

A quick jizering later and its fairly clean, you can even read the casting date on the 2nd photo...

The flywheel bolts were tightened up to thier proper torques..

With the F28 conversion (6 speed) the turbo clutch is required so the V6 flywheel bolts need precision machining to avoid interfering with the friction plate...

    (WARNING: Gratuitous grinder action )

The clutch was properly lined up...

    Tada! Clutch all on...

With the engine ready for installation it was time to look at the gearbox...
The F28 conversion requires a bastardisation of the F25 and F28 linkages so that was made and fitted..

Also theres a lug on the F28 box which catches on the oil cooler pipes so that was also precision machined off...

The offside drive shaft spacer was fitted to the bracket... (4 pot gearbox to 3 pot wide engine needs spacing )

No matter how much you try and keep things in order, theres always a damned mess!

With the gearbox and engine ready for installation we ran a wire for the oil pressure guage around the engine bay and through the bulkhead...

    Hard work this...

The gearbox went in and all mounts done up...

    Its crunch time...

    An hour later...

    And finally!

Loads still to do but at least the engines back in now!

    Good update keep em coming...

When you said "Both knackered!" you had me worried, I thought you were talking about the engine(s) !! Luckily you were talking about yourselves!

Today I probably spend two hours cleaning some wheels and fitting isofix (and I thought that was hard work lol )

aww shame... the suspension didn't collapse.. needed a good laugh today..

it's at this point you find a spare flywheel bolt and realise you didn't have a spare one....

you call that messy? you need to see my shed.. not been able to get to get to the drawers at the back for 6 years.. we keep emptying bits out when we can, but it's hardly dented the pile of stuff.. (we do keep adding bits though)..

who's arm is that under the engine bay in the picture The gearbox went in and all mounts done up...?

in the last picture - was the crowbar used for extra leverage, or hitting it because you put it in back to front?

it needs a good clean now, you got oil on it....

well done on getting this far with it... is there still room for the radiator?

i will go now before I ask anymore silly questions... .. only asking them in an attempt to cheer you up and give you a laugh after a hard day, just because sometimes it's nice too..

Great work you are doing there but i have to ask this, is it really worth all the time and money you are spending on a Calibra!?
