Rave's new motah [ Further to this thread: Need to buy and insure a dirt cheap banger in the next month... I went to a car auction after work today. As I said in the previous thread, I was only interested in a car that was small and frugal (and cheap to tax) OR that was properly fast and exciting to drive. I was very interested in a BMW 750iL with minor front end damage- a '94 model (last of the E32s) with only 100000 miles. It had 9 months MOT as well. Both front wings were creased and the bumper/grille was a bit warped, but it was clearly roadworthy. Well, it wasn't to be, because I'd already bought a car by the time that went through the ring (it went for £400, so about £470 after charges). The car I bought had 11 months MOT and 4 months tax. My bid price was £275; after my buyer's premium I paid a total of £334. ![]() ![]() . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Can you tell what it is yet? Yes, it's a: ![]() ![]() One of our bus garages is parked just down the road from the auction house so I abused my position and parked it up there until I could insure it. At that point my euphoria was abruptly terminated when I discovered that one of the front wheel bolts had stripped its thread and wouldn't do up properly. So, I have some work to do on one of the front hubs. But £334 for an apparently uncrashed 106 Rallye with a genuine 54000 miles seems like a pretty good deal. I'm pleased . www.no2id.net www.saynoto0870.com www.housepricecrash.co.uk Now these points of data make a beautiful line, and we're out of beta we're releasing on time....

Re: Rave's new motah [ Very slightly jealous of your "banger" ![]() My mate had one and although he blew the engine up every other time he drove it.. It was still a fantastic drive. Enjoy it mate, I know you will ![]() How high does it rev again.. it's something a civic type R wouldn't turn it's nose up at iirc.

Re: Rave's new motah [ 7000rpm. My MR2 redlined at 7500rpm and I once bounced it off the limiter at 7800 with no apparent harm done. Still, the new(ish) Panda 100hp makes similar power (erm...100bhp) from a 1.4 16V engine and it weighs a lot more than a 106. Yes, I'm thinking it'll be a hoot to drive alright . www.no2id.net www.saynoto0870.com www.housepricecrash.co.uk Now these points of data make a beautiful line, and we're out of beta we're releasing on time....

Re: Rave's new motah [ Great buy! I should think if you give it a good clean, tidy it up and look after it you'll easily get your money back when you sell it, perhaps even make a few quid.

Re: Rave's new motah [ Thanks guys. It's pretty scruffy, and I like the rat look, so I don't think I'm going to restore it. I do however intend to look after it and keep it going. I drove it home today and it's quite good, although the clutch biting point is very high. It's fast, but possibly not quite as fast as a 700kg car with 100bhp should be- maybe I'll dyno it at some point to see what the score is. When turning right onto a main road I decided to boot it in first and it fairly shot out of the corner- and then the throttle stuck open . I turned the engine off, rolled it round the corner and unstuck it, but I guess I'll be dismantling the throttle body to grease it up sometime soon . But overall I'm very pleased. Just got to find my old car radio now and shove it in- the one in it is not only crap (manual radio tuning anyone?), it doesn't even work! www.no2id.net www.saynoto0870.com www.housepricecrash.co.uk Now these points of data make a beautiful line, and we're out of beta we're releasing on time....
