    Parking Ticket: SHOCK, HORROR!

Hey all, got a ticket when we to town to dry the washing at the launderette, whilst I'm aware that I'm in the wrong, and details aside, I got a Penalty Charge Notice.

Now after venting at the missus who deliberatly took her time neatly folding EVERY last piece of clothing even after I'd told her I didn't want to be in the launderette for too long on account of my not having a parking ticket; I examined the ticket and noticed that my number plate had been recorded incorrectly on the ticket and so I was wondering if this would invalidate the charge notice.

Thanks in advance for your responses

I would have thought so. There's no harm in appealing it, even if it's not successful.

    Ok,

Was this on a main road, or a car park. If car park, private or council run.

More details on exactly how/where you parked will help your case.

if the numberplate is wrong then it could be anyones ticket. I don't see how you can be forced to pay it.

Whether it had been recorded incorrectly or not the Photo evidence of your car parked there will have the correct number plate on it, they can still prove it was your car so the fine will stand.

But thats why I'm not sure whether to appeal the ticket, just because they have pictures will surely kneecap their case, they'll say, the car in the picture is in violation of the parking rules, then when they see the numberplate and they look at whats on the Penalty Charge Notice doesn't correspond.

I'm going to appeal on this basis and seeing as Mr. Parking Attendant monumentally screwed up.

Logically you're right Paul, but legally it will be as watertight as a seive, surly?

Its worth trying but do it quickly, tbh imo with experience your appealing on the basis the parking attendant made a mistake and not because you thought you was not guilty if it was me I would just pay it as sometimes its just not worth the hassle. I mean in your own statement you said " I'd told her I didn't want to be in the launderette for too long on account of my not having a parking ticket" so you was aware you were illegally parked.

Anyway good luck keep us informed.

No wonder the legal system's shat, just because the pa got the reg wrong doesn't mean you should get away with it, pay up and move on.

Can you send me a cheque?

Some real good advice there mate didn't know that was an option, its not like I get them everyday... ooh I know, this morning I think I'm going to break some parking violations because I obviously don't have anything better to do with my free time or have anything better to spend my money on.

I hate it when people make those sort of comments, if they're going to make those sorts of errors it somewhat undermines the whole system in itself as they obviously don't take it very seriously themselves.

If the system was fair, properly enforced AND REGULATED I wouldn't have an issue paying.

As it is the road markings in a lot of the areas I have parked have been poor quality at best, no markings, blotches of paint on the road, how is a motorist meant to know if they can load or not? If the money went to keeping the road in a good condition and the markings properly done then fine, but it doesn't, so it should be contested on principle of poor work

Exact same thing happened to me. I appealed and asked for the photo evidence (that they stated they had on the ticket) to show my car was parked there. They didn't have it and the fine was dismissed. Definitely worth an appeal, what's the worst that can happen?

If councils are going to be sticklers for us following due procedure, I don't see why they shouldn't have to.
