Car insurance? who would you recommend?

hi, i just realised about 20 minutes ago after picking up a renewal letter that my car insurance runs out at the end of the day. DAMN!! just made me wonder whether it's worth shopping around for a new quote or sticking with them.

so basically out of interest, who do you recommend for cheap insurance?

Endsleigh if you are a student
    Tesco
    Elephant
And dont forget to get a couple quotes and make them fight for it, although you not got much time for that. I had endsleigh slug it out against motaquote - this dropped me at least 60 quid i think.

I've been getting some pretty good quotes from admiral through confused.com

Used to get good quotes from elephant.co.uk, but not so good now

it depends on the car - if you have an owners club , they often have a discount scheme.

I'm actually with norwich union myself at the moment, and i must say that so far they are the cheapest with only £385.97 for a renewal but i'm still looking, it's annoying cause i'm now paying more insurance for a newer k reg 1.1 metro s then i did last year for my old h reg 1.3 metro clubman. god damn that little s in it's name!!!

I don't think its fair comment to say forget any insurnace company, one that is outrageously expensive for one car, might be the best quote on another. So many varyables to providing a quote, best thing is to get a mag like Top Gear/Evo/What Car and look through the insurance section at the back. Go through each company and find the cheepest, might take some time, but its saved me some £££.

Direct line and Churchill are very good, and very cheap. My mother was with Direct Line last year, she was paying £340. But it went up this year to £380, so she is now with Churchill for £350

I used to be with Churchill, and they were very cheap, but I will never EVER use them again for anything. When someone crashed into my car they were very good at dealing with the details and providing a car etc, but did the most god awful repair i've ever seen, took over 6 months to get the damage they caused put right

Also they don't like ANY modifications to vehicles and check them with a fine toothcomb for any violations - the other reason I parted company with them.

As for recommendations I'm with Liverpool Victoria who are fantastic - they don't care about modifications or points/convictions and gave me a really good price (although touch wood not had the chance to test their policy yet )

Would a new stereo count as a modification? I replaced my tape player with a cd unit i picked up for 65 quid at a half price sale. Wonder if i am supposed to tell my insurance about it?

It wouldn't suprise me if Churchill invalidated a policy for a non-declared Magic Tree Air Freshener
