Yesterday me and tumble had a couple of drives to Liverpool (i moved home yesterday for my final year, so we had a couple of trips to make) from my house in Burscough, Lancashire - bout 30 mins in the car. it was lashing with rain, and i mean pouring down - really dark and gloomy. So of course Lynni puts her lights on, lets everyone else know she is on the road
![]() Does anyone else? Do they f*** i must have been one of the only drivers on the road for about 5-10 mins at one stage on my side who had her lights on..... ive never been so scared or so annoyed in my life. Nearly cost us a couple of grands worth of car as well (mine that is), i was moving lanes... signal and mirrored then went to move, this car appeared out of nowhere didnt have his lights on and as a result i didnt see him.... didnt help that the car was silver and against the visability wasnt easy to spot Why dont people use their headlights when they need to? It was that bad, even braking was a problem.... didnt even touch 60 the whole journey

In America they have a law that you must put your lights on when its raining.... now the americans are pretty stupid for somethings but this law is bloody brilliant......
with this in mind I always put my sidelights on as soon as it starts to rain. ![]() *Disclaimer* - The contents of this message are not necessarily my own opinions, thoughts or views... they may belong to the voices in my head! |

Yup, if I think it would be better if the other cars has their lights on to make things easier, I stick mine on to help others.
Good for you though Lynni.

All volvos have side lights (maybe even headlights in some cases) on at all times. And i do think even sidelights help.
Which can be a pain at night actually because the dash lights up, you can still see ahead because of street lighting and so you think the headlights are on - doh. I did on a couple occasions only remember about the lights in the middle of my journey. Although i would've been visible anyway. I switch my headlights on when going through some hilly lanes surrounded by trees - its dark there and i think it gives you a much better chance of spotting an incoming car on a narrow road. So lets all put the lights on in difficult conditions. ![]() Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors. |

My driving instructor told me this years ago...... if you look at car with their lights off... and then see another car with their lights on......... which one is more clearly visable....
often enough its the car with the lights on..... so its time to turn ya lights on!!! .........Tumble... obviously if I was driving along and visability was very low then headlights would be used instead of sidelights... ![]() *Disclaimer* - The contents of this message are not necessarily my own opinions, thoughts or views... they may belong to the voices in my head! |

When its pouring down like that the sidelights go on and the spots, don't bother with full lights as people confuse them for full beams thanks to renaults clever idea to use bulbs so bright they can strip the skin of a person at 300 yards.

I drive with my lights on all the time; if you have an accident with someone and you have your lights on, I'd say it's going to stand in your favour.
And it looks cool ![]() It's surprising how many more people get out the way on the motorway if you have your lights on! |

I have to say that most people do leave it too late to put their lights on, but surely as automatic lights become more common place this will solve the issue (unless of course they dont make them sensative enough).
PS: Lynni, i know the roads u took (im in skem, and im always in ormskirk). People in ormskirk simply cant drive, its just the rule. Non of them can judge an island or have a clue how to use lanes, lights are the least of their faults. |
