    Obscuring the rear window

Is it legal? For the SantaPod trip I'm going to put a flag in the rear window which will completely obscure it. If I could drive there and back with it in place that would be a bonus, means less hassle when we get there. But how legal is it?

Obviously you can get the rear 3 windows tinted much more than the fronts (if at all anymore for the fronts?) and there are loads of vans which have body coloured rear windows (e.g. Astra Maxs as well as Transits etc.), but I read during the Euro thingy when people had flags on their cars, that police would pull people over if the flags hindered your vision.

So what does the law say?

given that plod has a tendancy to hang around the poddington area on RWYB days , do you *really* want to give them a reason to pull you ?

I know there is that, but it's a question I'd be interested to know the answer to...

technically.. you don't HAVE to be able to see out of the back window.... caravan anyone? as long as you can see behind you in the wing mirrors you should be ok.

ahh thats why in Sept/Oct you see 100's of cars on the motorway ladened up to the roofracks and no way of seeing through the rear window with clothes, PC's, TV's etc and its usually parents taking their off-spring to Uni

Vans, caravans, etcetera would all have the same problem.

You need a windscreen, wing mirrors and your two side windows (driver and passenger).

That's why you can tint every window except these ones.

Life is a game of chess.
    I'm crap at chess.
    Sometimes though, I get lucky.

But in this case it may be considered that he is obscuring visibility without proper reason for it.You might get stopped and told to take it down even if they may not fine you(this is just a guess btw).

Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors.
