| Pay As You Go Insurance Today, Norwich Union have started an 18 month trial into Pay Per Mile Insurance. They install a small box, like a sat nav box, but that simply uses Mobile Phone Cells, to tell where and when you drive and how far you travel, so they can vary your Insurance Accordingly. A representative on Radio 4 today said that "speed was not monitored" simply driving distance and time or day and location. Blimey.....I'm not sure about that, are you? I guess is you do low miles, late at night as a Security Guard or a Shoft Worker, you probably ARE low risk. But to know when and where you are driving is a bit......perosnal. Its voluntary for the trial and might be a failure, but they seem dead keen. ![]() Agent = Hardware Homosapien | Zak33 = Hardware Homonid - just call me "Lucy" |

| Real Ultimate Power! | despite the fact that its tracking you, no thanks, and what else is that little box collecting that you don't know about. Its a shame really as it still wont make norwich union any cheaper, they are the highest quoters of all I have tried, They quoted me £3750 for my insurance whereas the same car same details is costing me £710 with choice direct. Muppets the lot of em at Norwich. |

| Well speed may not be monitored as the mobile phone network cells are not accurate enough to give a reading, which will likely mean that they are using o2, (don't ask how i know that - its classified heh) but any speed they calculate is unlikely to be accurate. I'd be very suprised to see this take off without a proper solution, BY which i mean full GPS unit that monitors all movement. I'd be happy to have a unit in my car if it gave me significantly lower insurance. I think its a great idea any plans to make insurance market change and to improve and innovate is great by me ![]() TiG -- Hexus Meets Rock! -- |

| The NU blokey who's just been on the news was saying that it can track speed. And that if the police required ANY info regarding any investigation they might be making, then NU would have to pass it over. As they do now. Sorry, this aint for me. I'll stick with my nice big premiums |

| i.e. you sign up to it thinking you might save a little money because your a safe driver only to find out that if your average speed is over 40mph your considered a 'risk' and you preimium goes through the roof. Meanwhile mad old man down the road who can hardly see over the streering wheel, crashes at least once a every 6 months for which his reply is "I've been driving on these roads for 50 years!", but drives everywhere at 30mph (only problem is he doesnt stop when he's supposed too...) pays next to nothing. 'Sigh' I just hope other companies dont follow suit or it doesnt become standard practice. |

| Like the the country-wide congestion charge based upon used and time of day, I'm dead against it. I thought I lived in a land where my freedom to roam wasn't questioned. The proposed identity cards are bad enough. I am me, I know it, there's no need for anyone else too unless I say so! 1 : Q9450 | 4Gb PC8500 DMX | ASUS P5E-WS Pro | HD2900XT | 2 x 750Gb (RAID1) | Adaptec ASR-2230SLP SCSI | DVDRW | Corsair 650W TX | CM RC-590 | 2x VP171s-2 | HP Ultrium 960 LTO3 | XP SP3 Pro 2 : X2 4200+ | 2Gb PC3200 | ASUS A8N-SLI Premium | 6600GT | SonicFury | 8x 250Gb (2x RAID10) | 3Ware 9650SE-8LPML | DVDRW | Seasonic 700W | CM Stacker 830 | 2x VP171s-2 | XP SP3 Pro 3 : Sm 3100+ | 1Gb PC3200 | ASUS K8N-E Deluxe | 9800 Pro | 4 x 250Gb Maxline III (RAID10) | DVDRW | CDRW | Tagan 530W Easycon | CM ATC-201B-BXT Black Widow | W7 RC W : Dell Precision 690 | Intel X5355 | 4Gb FBDIMM | Quadro FX3450 | 2x 146Gb 15k SAS (RAID1) | DVDRW | DVD | 2x 2007FP | XP SP3 Pro

| I can see life turning into minority report. "You, sir, will speed in 2012. We have come to arrest you. Oh, and since you are gonna be in prison now you will try to punch your cellmate, which would escalate to a fight leading to his death. This will be the death penalty for you then. So we are gonna execute you right now, if you don't mind. Does your family have access body disposal facilities? We can recommend a great place, cheap and only round the corner. I hear service there is great, they also do discounts to frequent users. I've already saved £300!" ![]() Tough on mirrors, tough on the causes of mirrors. |
