Total Lack of Common Sense
Who? guess, that's up to you
![]() For those who don't know, a new car has to have a PDI before the cusotmer drives it away. Its a Pre Delivery Inspection. The mechanic in question checks nuts and bolts, tyre pressures, oil level, antifreeze, door locks, seat belts etc etc... basic fact is a factory is a high volume producing environment and stuff happens. When the car gets here, we have to check it. Stereo etc etc...air con, remote keys etc etc You get the idea. Today all dealers got an internal memo, which we get hundreds of per month, and one bit reads like this: Agila "No Touch" PDI We would like to adivse you that it has been decided to implement a "No Touch" PDI for the Agila carline in all European markets. The term "No Touch" stands for treating Agila vehicles during the PDI inspection at the retailer as consumer goods: clean it, drive it! OK, that is WORD FOR WORD. However....further down the page is: The new Agila PDI form will be issued to all retailers. In the event of a defect being found on a vehicle, please fax the completed form and if possible 'email' a digita photo to ....... Right....so lets get this straight shall we......Clean It Drive it, actually involves filling in a PDI form and checking the car over anyway. What do ya do? I need a wall to beat my head on please. Either we PDI a car or we don't..surely. This is not normal external mail guys, but you need to see what happens inside a big company for your own goods. SO if something goes wrong with a car, bear in mind lots of people at the dealership maybe as bemused as you! |

PDI's are possible THE most imprtant part i'd say.
Think about it; You buy a BRAND new car, take it out of the show room, only to find the spare tyre is flat, the stereo won't hold any presets and the Aircon isn't working. How is that going to make you feel? What are the chances you'd EVER buy something from that dealer again? Probably some bean counter at head office has realised that the comapny could save xyz punds by not performing this trivial task ( "its new! what on earth could need checking?" ). The solution Zak? Create a rule in outlook that moves all internal memos straight to the deleted items folder.
