    whats wrong with your car...

... ok this thread is only created because im bored and have been drinking... as title, there must be something, hopefully your car isnt as crap as the one i have to drive, but we shall see

here are the problems with the car i drive:

    1. the rear windscreen wiper doesnt work, its stuck halfway up the screen, doesnt move for love nor money.
    2. the handbrake sometimes decides to lock the wheels if left on for too long, hence the car is best left in gear with the handbrake off.
    3. the passenger wingmirror is held on by duct-tape and is no use to the driver as the angle which it's taped at reflects stuff which you can see out of the passenger window. useful huh?
    4. the little thing (for want of a scientific name) which you hold onto with your hand on the passenger side is only held in/on with one screw, hell knows what happened to the other screw but its not really attached to the car too well.
    5. the heater. i say heater, its awful, seems to have about 98.3% humidity, will steam up the car more than it is when turned on, pretty damned great invention if i ever saw one.
    6. oh yeh the rev counter, sometimes it works, but most of the time it just sits at 0 rpm, not that you really need a rev counter, but if its there it should really work.
    7. i cant really think what else is wrong with the car atm, well when you fill up the petrol tank the car smells of petrol, i guess it probably shouldnt, but ive got used to that now...

mm yeh think thats most of the problems i may think of some more tomorrow. at least it goes forward.. oh 0-60 in 17.7 seconds with my dad driving (timed it yesterday morning ).. the car? 1.4litre mk3 astra, what a beast it isnt. i just want to be re-assured that the car(s) you lot drive arent all that superior to the one i drive

    1. The left electric mirror doesnt work properly
    2. When started on a cold morning the car makes a ticking noise for a while (an E30 thing)
    3. The top of my gearstick has ripped about 3/4's of the way through now, i've been meaning to replace it for ages but Im lazy

that's about it really, not bad for its age

    1. Lever to move the steering wheel up and down has broken off (cheap plastic).
    2. Aeriel lead has been damaged so I can't pickup radio.
    3. An alarm sensor has gone dodgy so have to disable the internal sensors when you lockup.
    4. Batt is dead in one of the keys.

    Thats about it I think.

oh yeh, the aerial on the astra is broken in half, have to stick to cds central locking works, no alarm/immobiliser/lock-on-the-keyring thing... really is a budget motor!

more thoughts.. only got 2 hubcaps. on the left hand side so it looks alright from one side, and crap from the other

    1. The hazard lights wont stay on unless you keep holding the button ( i reckon its from when the indicator relay died and got replaced)
    2. Windscreen is bolloxed - steams up from outside when there was morning due and wipers need cleaning and sorting (just needs attention i suppose)
    3. Bits of carpet on the wall near the hinges on the doors have become unstuck on both sides. Cosmetic rather than anything, just needs gluing back.
    4. Engine revs are going up and down on idle. Noone could find the reason. Doesn't seem to affect anything else so i dont bother. The engine has been revving really high on idle after a couple of clear frosty nights recently - i think thats just the autochoke though.
    5. Some recent scratches need sorting before they go rusty. And the underside got scraped when i was driving through some gravel country lanes.

Other then that it seems ok. Peugeot 106 1.1L

    Hmmm..... I have:

Massive dent in the back from being rear ended- took the insurance money and spent it on beer.
Gearbox oil needs changing urgently, engine is overdue; is Mobil 1 though so that shouldn't be too bad.
Handbrake light comes on all the time.
Rear wing is more rust than metal (classic MR2 fault)
Handbrake doesn't really work despite refurb calipers 2 years ago (ditto)
Slow puncture in one right rear, loses about 1psi a day (had it pretty much since I got the car- tyre still has plenty of tread 10,000 miles later ). I just pump it up every week.
Tape jammed in stereo, so now it doesn't work at all. I have a fairly decent alpine from my old car, not got round to fitting it.
Left windscreen wiper knackered- have had a new one for 18 months, can't be bothered to fit it.
Right hand headlight popup motor damaged (actually the position sensor). Can be wound up and down by hand; I usually leave it up and drive about 1-eyed during the day.
Driver's door central locking motor broken; I have to unlock the car with the remote bipper and then use the key to get in.

Now you come to mention it that's quite a lot of faults, but the only one I'm actually bothered about is the oil, I'll look into doing something about that in the next couple of weeks.

    Rich :¬)
