David: I agree but its not the most pratical

Saw a streetka earlier in black and they are very nice, could be tempted by them , shame they are around 10grand

My old saxo has these stats

    Maximum speed (MPH) 115
    0-62mph (seconds) 10.0
    Insurance group 07E

Ok here's the list of cars I've considered

    Audi A3

    Insurance group 14A
    Maximum speed (MPH) 135
    0-62mph (seconds) 8.2

I really like the styling of this car, I'd want a 1.8 litre sport to be happy which means I'd have to get an older/higher milage car

    Pros
    Great looks
    Audi build quality

    Cons
    Expensive
    Pricey on the insurance

    -------------------

    FORD FIESTA 1.6 Zetec 3dr

    Insurance group 08E
    Maximum speed (MPH) 114
    0-62mph (seconds) 10.6

Again I like the styling , but the performance of the 1.6 isnt as good as my saxo

    Pros
    Good Looks
Would be able to get a 2003

    Cons
    Not quick
    Stupid radio system

    -------------------

    FORD PUMA 1.7i 16V 3dr Coupe

    Insurance group 12E
    Maximum speed (MPH) 126
    0-62mph (seconds) 8.8

I like this cars looks and its performance is good compared to my saxo. Main drawback is internal and boot space which is not good

    Pros
    Good Looks
    Not bad performance

    Cons
2 seater or as good as
    High boot lip

    -------------------

    FORD Focus 2.0 Zetec

    Insurance group 08E
    Maximum speed (MPH) 125
    0-62mph (seconds) 9.3

Bigger than the other cars I've looked at, I'd want a 3 door as I dont like the 5 doors. The 2 door zetecs are rarer that all the other models so might be hard to source a nice one

    Pros
    Good Looks
    Not bad performance
    Loads of space

    Cons
    Biggest car here
    3door nice ones rarer

    -------------------

    FORD STEET KA 1.6 CONVERTIBLE

    Insurance group 07E
    Maximum speed (MPH) 108
    0-62mph (seconds) 12.1

A great looking car, I cant stand normal ka's but these are ace. They are expensive compared to the other cars here, I can get one for under 8 grand just.

    Pros
    Great Looks
    Convertable
    Cheap insurance for some reason

    Cons
    Slow
    2 seats and no practicality
    Expensive

    -------------------

    HONDA Civic 1.6i VTEC SE

    Insurance group 06E
    Maximum speed (MPH) 116
    0-62mph (seconds) 10.2

Dont mind the looks but the model I want is too expensive to consider , this 1.6 doesnt look as nice

    Pros
    Honda reliability
    Cheap insurance

    Cons
    Slower
    Not fan of looks
Best model too expensive to consider

    -------------------

    Peugeot 206 2.0 GTi

    Insurance group 14D
    Maximum speed (MPH) 130
    0-62mph (seconds) 8.3

Looks good , and has a 2 litre engine , its pricey on the insurance and I hate the french at the moment

    Pros
    Speedy
    Looks good

    Cons
    Insurance is high
    French!

    -------------------

    VOLKSWAGEN Lupo 1.6 GTi

    Insurance group 11D
    Maximum speed (MPH) 127
    0-62mph (seconds) 8.3

Tiny little car, but pricey and rare

    Pros
    Speedy
    Small

    Cons
    Insurance is high
Not sure on looks of it

    -------------------

    VOLKSWAGEN POLO 1.6 GTi

    Insurance group: 12D
    Maximum speed (MPH) 127
    0-62mph (seconds) 8.7

great looking car with nice performance, but its pricey to insure and I don't know what the reliabilty

    Pros
    Speedy
    Small

    Cons
    Insurance is high
    Not sure on reliabilty

At the moment I cant really choose between the pug 206 gti/Puma 1.7/Polo Gti.

Lupo doesn't look any different from the Polo apart from a bigger boot, anyway Lupo GTi for me

The Lupo I wouldn't go for... the one I drove handled like a jelly... and the Ka's ok if you like a kart that's got gears and upholstery (again.. driven one and not really the most comfortable thing in the world).. I'd say the Focus or the Puma would be good... either that or the A3...

Pug GTi is the one to go for on your shortlist. Easily the best handling car of the bunch.

Always loved the pugs , my first car was a very nice 309 and it was lovely to drive right up till I wrote it off hehe

I replaced it with a vauxhall astra which was the worst handling car in the world !

I think I need to do some insurance shopping and see what deal I can get, anyone know of any pug owners club that have deals?

Out of your list I'd go for the Audi A3 by a huge margin. I love them. If I had enough for a decent second hand one, even just a 1.6, and to pay for the insurance, I'd have one in an instant.

The problem is that u pay thro the nose for them , what I can get a pug year 2000 for you get a 1998 for in the a3 and it aint worth the extra imho.
