5th Gear is now owning Top Gear

    Discuss

Cos although I despise Vikki What the Butler Saw Henderson, I do kinda like Tiff and I do like Jason and they can drive.

Couple of night ago I was watching Jason and Vikki larging a pair of lary TVR's around a wind swept coastal track (Scotland? looked like John Clelands home track ?) with some level of skill....

I am fairly sure that while Clarkson might have had a try at it, the other two numpties from Top Gear would'nt have had a chance of doing the same. And for me thats what makes Fifth Gear better.

The Lotus Esprit 200 mph challenge is a cracker too...

I think the track they use is in Anglesey.

And Top Gear use stig, which i find both amusing and useful. I like knowing how different cars compare on the same track with the same driver, even though this info won't necessarilly help me in any way.

And funnily enough having racing drivers as presenters kind of goes against what people said about top gear being all about expensive cars and 5th gear being more about what real people really drive. A racing driver may ask for different things from his car.

To be honest I will always be watching both and I don't really want to take part in any debate on which is better. They are different and i like them both.

^^^ Amen, stop with the Top Gear bashing. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

    I don't....but I've missed Fifth Gear too. When's it on? What's this about a 200mph Esprit?

Top gear's watchable by everyone. You don't have to be a car nut at all. It's entertainment.

The 'other guy' on Fith gear (not Tiff) may well be able to drive but he's got less personality than Jenson Button. Watched an article he did one some Ferarri thing going to the ring and I nearly fell asleep. Infact, when he speaks I have to chew my own foot to stay awake.

I'd far rather see things like the top gear £100 car challenge than a couple of TVR things going round some track.

must be more MotorSport I guess. Top Gear makes me laugh, but shows me nothing of use.

5th gear makes me drool (not Henderson, she's a bit of a minger) and shows me real attitude to cars.

The only thing I don't like about Fifth Gear is by the time you've taken into account the adverts half way through and immediatly after the show, then the endless plugging for their rediculously easy telephone competition, you are left with perhaps 12-15 minutes of watchable television, which just isn't enough.

They wanted to build a 200 mph car on a budget. Bought a v8 Lotus Esprit for 20 odd grand. A couple thousand more than they wanted to pay, but a professional inspection showed that it was in very good nick. They then had the gearbox let go after driving it for 5 miles.

They fettled the turbos, put the right tyres on, fixed the gearbox and remapped the engine (not sure if they changed the chip). I think they were pushing 420 bhp at the end of all that.

Then the gearbox broke again. So its "find out later on in the series".

The only reason 5th gear is owning Top Gear this week is because top gear isnt on for another few weeks

5th gear is ok i watch it when i remember its on (missed mondays one which sounded like a bit of a laugh). As mentioned above, its far too shor, its also a bit boaring, i dont really care how a focus tdccirsgti compares with a seat leon tdigtrvts when towing a caravan at 42.3mph on the motorway. Its not interesting most of the time. Top gear is just pure entertainment.

    WHAAAT? you mad or what?

200mph is a HUGE BARRIER. It's so far out of reach for most cars. it's a great challenge

I rekon if Top Gear got a nice bird to do the presenting, ditch that James May or Hammond it would get a lot more viewing Haven't watched 5th Gear much, what I have seen I didn't like, one time she drove an Aston Martin and broke some belt 3 times so the Aston guys had to come and fix it in their helicopter.

Anyways, if I'm around, I'll watch either. Right now though my time is spent watching Babylon 5 on DVD.
