    Insurance Group 1 Cars?

Does anybody have a list of cars that fall into the insurance group 1?

So far I've checked out a FIAT Panda insurance wise and it's the cheapest - but are there any others I can look at?

    Thanks

    Josh

    new or old?

remember insurance group doesnt actually determine cost - mine is a group 7 but is as cheap as a 900cc micra (which is surely lower group).

Try a 2cv, they are pretty cheap, or a volvo 340 (no kidding, dirt cheap)

I know what you are thinking but just don't. Cars that fall into insurance group 1 are just bad. They are slow, uncomfortable, spartan and nasty. And the best bit is, wait for it...

Becuase they are ultra cheap to insure, there is high demand and thus they cost more than you'd think. You could easily end up spending more than it would cost to just insure a decent car on buying one of these.

People put waay too much emphasis on insurance groups. You can insure virtually anything under Group 10 without a huge difference in price. The difference between 1 and, say, 4, for example will probably be under 50 quid even if you are a young driver.

Agreed - within a small range of groups (e.g. 1-6 etc) the value of the car makes as much, if not more difference than the group

Its not really the insurance group that determines cost, my focus 2.0 ghia which was group 8 was only a bit cheaper than my nissan 200sx which is group 18.

I disagree, insurance grouping does determine cost to quite an extent. It's just that the difference between Groups is usually a lot smaller than you'd imagine

2CVs = teh win if you can find one that isn't rotting to pieces. I learned to drive in my mum's one at the age of 12, then hopped in on the morning of my 17th birthday and drove myself to school. It lasted another couple of years after that and we were all gutted to see it go (gearbox died in the end).

Another thing to keep in mind is the age and cost. My 1st car a Citroen AX (Ins grp 4) (F reg) was ancient and cost £400 (at the time) its insurance was the same as my 2nd car a Ford Ka (ins grp 2) (P reg) which cost £2000 (att). The Ka was safer and therefore a lower group, but the older car cost less so it was relatively cheaper to insure.
