    I Love Insurance companies!

Well... I love my bike insurance company!

Just got my renewal through and it's only £160!

OK, thats TPFT with 5 years of no claims, but it still made me smile!

Fellow bikers should give these guys a try.

Insurance companies rip us all off, i mean we're insured incase stuff happens, so if stuff doesn't happen, shouldn't we get our money back?

Why not? If i get one with Full Service History / MOT / Tax, combine that with 18 months - 2 years driving Fully Comp as Main Driver with 1 other named driver and 0 NCB and i could well get it for around £1k.

Stu has a Saxo VTR and is paying £950 or so Fully Comp NCB after 18 months of driving afaik.

LOL, insurance companies don't make any money, they loose money every year on average, thats why insurance premiums keep going up and up and up, and more and more people decide not to bother, then the companies have to pay more to the group that sort out the claims for people without insurance having accidents.

Totally wrong imo, people that are involved in accidents without insurance should A) be sent to prison and b) be forced to pay compensation and the damages cost to be replaced.

That group only pays out for personal injury claims, because they can often ammount to tens of thousands of pounds. If you are in an accident with an uninsured driver (as I was recently) your own insurance company will end up paying for the damage, assuming you have comprehensive cover. Luckily for me I was in my car, and I also have protected no claims.

These days police policy is not to attend traffic accidents, even personal injury accidents, unless there are independant witnesses and a good chance of a prosecution. In my accident, where the other party ran a red light, and two witnesses stopped, the police attended, and will likely attempt to prosecute, but since the driver was foreign, driving illegally, I have zero chance of recovering my uninsured losses.

Personally, I'd like to see a mandatory prison sentance for anyone driving without insurance.

Prisons are full enough already. I think that if you cause an accident while driving without insurance, you should get an enormous fine, which you WILL pay off, even if you're bankrupt for the rest of your life.

I've hopped in my mother-in-law's car before to move it up the road so my father-in-law can get out of the driveway, I don't think I should go to prison for that even though I'm technically breaking the law.

Edit: screw it, I feel like a rant. What I'd like to see is fewer total amateurs passing their tests, more police prosecutions and bans of people obviously driving like twats, and complete oppobrium heaped on the lazy spongers who rip off insurance companies with their exaggerated personal injury claims. Maybe then we'd see insurance premiums become reasonable once again.

There should be more fines for people who are driving dangerously. The amount of people like this who cause accidents is stupid. I was involved in an accident involving two cars and a Artic lorry (I was a pass) anyway we are minding are own business going around the J9 roundabout of the M42 and there was a Picasso driver being stupid... To cut along story short he suddenly hopped two lanes approching traffic lights (Red), cutting up a lorry in the process. Lorry has to swerve to avoid him and hit us instead. Nice Mr. Picasso driver then promptly drives off cutting back across two lanes. Twat.

Yeah I got his plate... I was the only one who bothered to even try remembering it. As well as make and colour of vehicle.

I don't know what will happen about it. We have to claim off of the Lorry Drivers company.

It was a company car we are in, and what is really stupid is the person drivings premium has gone up £30 because he has been involved in an accident. Apparently even if you are driving southbound on a motorway and a lorry going northbound sheds a wheel and it bounces over the reservation and plants itself in your car this is the case. WTF??? According to them if you make a claim you are more likely to do it again compared to someone who has never made a claim??? Insurance companys talk bollocks.

Is it true that in America it's not illegal to be uninsured?

Not a good idea not to be insured but save a hell of a lot of money

True. Tho' you pay a seperate insurance to insure yourself if the 'other' party isn't insured.

Thanks for the reco, TeePee. Come '04, I'll be looking for a reasonable quote for a sports 400 as a 22, it being my first bike!

    Heh, wishful thinking...

The main reason why insurance is going through the roof is because of millions of claims for pretty much anything you can think of.

You can blame the government for introducing 'no win no fee' claims thus saving itself legal aid bills. You can also blame ambulance chasing bottom dwelling scum like The Accident Group and Claims Direct for encouraging spurious claims.

Where there is blame there is a claim, and the chance to screw an insurance company, and of course everybody else. Don't forget who ultimately pays for insurance claims.
