    Question peugeot 306

After reading a few threads about people who have problems with their 306's it seems there is a common problem with this model. I have a 306 2.0 xsi, and have had problems with the car idling. At idle speed the engine will sometimes die right down and cut out. This problem isn't constant as sometimes it happens and other times its fine. A service and engine flush did not cure the problem. The car has recently failed its MOT due to its emissions. I have had a diagnostic reading, and the result was that the lamba sensor (o2 sensor) was faulty. I managed to get a new sensor from a local motor factors for £45. I have fitted the new sensor and booked the car in for a re-test. However i am not confident that it will solve the problem. I have heared that a 'stepper motor/sensor' on theinlet manifod could also cause this problem. Could anybody tell me how much one of these would cost me? Also the rev counter and oil pressure gauges have stopped working...any ideas?

I know sod all about 306s but I do know that the first thing to do if you have electrical gremlins is to check all your fuses. Have you done that?

    my 306

yes had checked the fuses when problem began. It has turned out to be a fault with the ECU and is probably going to be v.expensive
    ...but cheers for the reply.

My 1.4 306 LX does it too mate.

Mine had the same fault with the lambda sensor too. Got it fixed though, and the ECU problem, hasn't completely fixed it though.

Its not happeneing quite as often as it used to, perhaps once a month... but its not good. I go toward a sharpish corner on a backroad, put the clutch down, and it cuts out... Now i'm forced to hold the now tank-like vehicle round a sharpish corner until i'm on a straight and can start it back up as without the engine on, the power steering don't work too well

Might tell the garage to take a look when it goes in for its MOT next month... Might also get them to check the problem with my Airbag... In the fact the airbag light has been flashing constantly for a good month or two now

I think i must be the only person who has a pug 306 which isn't falling to bits.

It's a hideous colour and some scally pain in the rear has gone to work on the paint work but the engine and the electrics are running spectacularly.

Although when you open the passenger and driver door to see how the wire bundles are held together it doesn't inspire much confidence in french electrics.

As always with idle issues on modern engines, blast the airways with carb cleaner as a matter of course.

I have this problem and after much research it seems to be that loads of 306s were fitted with cheap ECUs made by Sagem. Apparently your local dealer will tell you its everything BUT this while the car is under warranty, so you have to pay the £800-£1000 yourself. Not happy, especially as I reported this as early as 3 months after purchase.... looking into legal action, seems to me there should have been a recall, will let you know how it goes if you're interested.
