New engine in the Clio :)
I've done it again.
Since the 1.8 blew up (my fault, it died on a rolling road power run) I needed to get her back on the road. So, I was lucky enough to source a Spider Cup racing engine. Basicly it's the same engine as the 1.8, but stroked (iirc) a little to bring it to a 2.0l. The sump's slightly bigger, and the head's a little different and it's got some slightly wilder cams in it. The engine's been blueprinted, balanced, the valves are triple angle jobbies, compression's been raised by skimming the head and decking the bottom end... Needless to say, it's a pretty good spec. It's capable of revving to 8k on the race management, but I'm running a basic remap of the factory settings which limits the fun to 6.8k - but to be honest there's no need to take it that far. ![]() Whilst the engine was out it had a few new things thrown in as well - new clutch, gearbox, PAS pump (which is buggered now, joy), water pump, all the belts, steering bushes, filters etc, so she drives like a new car. It's still economical too - 35-40mpg on a run which i thought was more than acceptable. Only niggles so far are the PAS pump which is on the way out and the exhaust which is knocking since things have been moved about. I'm going to get a midbox put in to help give a bit more backpressure soon and whilst they're at it get them to fix it in place a bit better!

Piccies aren't worth showing tbh - it's identical to look at. In fact, if you didn't know you'd never know it was a 2.0l Spider engine. The differences are so small it's untrue that only a real expert would ever notice.
As for a road report? Well - suffice to say it's quick. Very. Bloody. Quick. Plenty of bottom end grunt, revs so quick because of the balancing and lightened BE. I can't imagine much on the roads these days being that much of a problem... |

Not sure what your point is integerspin... to cross the line at nearly 200mph you'd need more power than I should think anyone here has got - by a long way!
But anyway my 15.3 was a long time ago. The car's some 50kg lighter since then and better able to transmit the power. However, it's by no means setup for drag because frankly drag is boring. I wouldn't like to think how bad a 60ft would be now with 3dg camber. Lowe, get it on the track and start using it properly

2.0l Clios are good for low 14 second 1/4 miles without too much trouble, I can't imagine this one being much different.
Shad - I'll chuck on a track at some point. Going around Silverstone in an Exige has given me the bug, but I can't afford (in every sense of the word) for this to blow up so it won't be any time soon. |

I came across that ticket while archiving some old email, I recieved it from a mate when he ran his first six, with a note 'just call me Mr Six'..
2.0 litre Clio and 14's thats pretty good.. I ran a stock 68 charger, before the engine was rebuilt it struggled to run 15's afterwards it ran 13.6 all day long. It would beat almost all stock muscle cars, so a 14 from a Clio does impress me.. I can remember a 'HotRod' article on building 13's cars that I was shown, probably by 'Mr Six' infact;-) if you stripped away the fit chrome rocker covers, chrome water pump and fluffy dice[well almost] instructions, the suggestions were for a total engine[which was probably claimed by the manafacturer to be 350 hp or so] rebuild and suspension rebuild. with all the mods you can think of head porting' aftermarket valve train e.t.c all to run a 13.. Just thinking about the power to weight ratio, if chrysler were to be beleived I had 375 bhp and a 3800 lb car, so that equates to 212hp in your clio for mid 13's.
immer in der Scheiße, ist es nur die Tiefe, die sich verändert.
