    ford fiesta recon engine

recently my ford fiesta engine blew up ive found a guy who reckons his ford fiesta has a recon engine in it the car has done a 110,000 miles and he says the engine was replaced at about 80k, apparently the previous owner ran it in to the ground and just changed the engine over when it blew. We ran the car for abit and it ran ok sounded a bit tappy but apparently all 1.1's sound that way.
Does ne one know what to look for to tell if its a recon engine, as to be honest i know hardly nething about cars, although it seemed abit rusty for a recon engine didnt really look in good condition, but i guess looks can be deceiving as mine looked fine, he wants about £80 for it includin a couple of other bits

    That they do

Rust on the block won't really give anything away as to the state of the engine as the important bits are all on the inside. You could look for recently disturbed bolts and the quality of the gaskets, but it it's done 30,000 since it had a 'recon' I'm not sure you'd pick up on anything.

Recon is also a subjective word. It could be it just had new valve stems, cam, cam drive gear, rockers etc etc or it could be a full rebuild. Kents only cost £300 to £400 with labour to get a fully re-conned exchange unit.
