    SEAT service problem, advice please?

    Hey gents,

Ill try to keep this short, dont wanna babble on too much.

Basically I bought a deliver miles ex showroom SEAT Ibiza FR from a local SEAT dealer up here in the North East. Now the car had a few little issues with it such as the Turbo surging, door seals leaking, power steering unit squealing. And then last Saturday I drove to Leeds and the service light came on.

Now the car is actually 1 year old, but I am the first proper owner of the car and I bought it in July (27th) this year. Since then its done 3800 miles, and now SEAT are saying I must get it serviced otherwise im voiding warranty. My point is, the car IS 1 year old, but the garage never used it for months (it was basically registered to tie in with their own sales target agenda, nothing to do with me at all), but the car in my eyes should only be 1 year old in July. They are willing to pay half of the cost of the service, and I also pay half, but why should I!

As far as im concerned I bought a brand new car that was used as a showroom demo type car. I paid a lot of money (well to me anyway) for the car so surely the least they can do is give me a service. It hasnt even done half the mileage yet!

    Any advice is appreciated,

    Cheers

How much is the service cost?
if half of it is less than £50 I wouldn't bother arguing
If it is, I'll give you some tips on making sure they back down.

    Hi there,

The full service costs £130 standard, so I surmise its gonna be £65. Thing is, its still £65 I shouldnt have to pay. Plus its close to Christmas, ideally need all the money I can get!

    Any tips are welcome!

    Cheers

Minor (10k) service is ONLY a oil n filter change.. 20k is oil, filter + fuel filter (on diesel) and inspection..
40K is above + air filter
60k is the big cambelt... £300 on its own + another 200 for service
but they also have "Annual service" which is basically a 20k every year fo the low mileage drivers

If i were you, id buy the oil yourself (make sure its VAG certified.. Millers is usually cheap) and get a indie to do it, and make sure they use the appropriate OE filter, as long as they stamp your book youll be fine.

Oil can be pricey VAG motors... the dealers charge about 10-12quid per litre of the 505.1 stuff and up to 18quid for the 506.1 longlife stuff! - as above, i bought 5 litres of the millers XFE-PD for my Fabia vRS which is 505 approved for 20quid

you don't have to get a car serviced at a dealer to keep your warrenty. that said, i'd do it for the sake of keeping the warrenty - the belts might have stretched or something.. for £65 on a car costing that much, is it worth the risk?

    Hi,

Well yes it is really. Dont get me wrong im not a tight wad, but why should I have to pay? This SHOULD have been serviced before I bought it, even the gentleman who works in sales I spoke to said he agreed and if it wasnt done before I bought it it would be done free of charge.

Its not that I dont have the money to do it, its based on principle of the whole thing. I just refuse to be taken for a ride by SEAT on this whole thing.

    Cheers for the advice guys,

oh in which case, go back to the sales bloke. if he agreed to that, hold them to it, or ask for all your money back for the car, as it is not been sold with the waranty intact as it should have been when you bought it

SEAT don't do the cambelt automatically at 60k - i've heard well over 100k quoted from the stealers for mine.. One point to note - if you're getting the cambelt done then get your water pump changed at the same time as they have plastic implellers that shear off (mine went at 40k and I did the cambelt at the same time - found a friendly audi mechanic who did the whole lot for 100 cash!).

As for your warranty - get the service done (and if they're offering half cost service all the better) as it's 1 year OR 10k whichever is sooner. You don't have to use a SEAT garage but for the money you're being offered (and the dealer's stamp in your book) i'd do it. If you had an agreement then press sales on it and see where you'll go - they'll want you happy so you'll come back for servicing.

    Hi there,

I know what your saying but, based on principle, I shouldnt have to pay anything. The car is 4 months old in my opinion. I was not told that it was registered to meet their own sales quota. That has nothing to do with me. As far as Im concerned the car was brand new ex showroom model. What they done with it before I bought it had nothing to do with me, but as far as servicing goes it should have done before I bought it, or it was handed over to me.

Im not saying I wont get it serviced, but what im saying is, on principle, I shouldnt have to pay for it at all. The gentleman who works in sales even said himself, it should have been serviced before I bought it.

I see where your coming from though. But rather than paying £65 id rather pay £0.

I don't disagree - as I said if you had an agreement try and pursue it and get the service done free. It won't cost the garage much in reality and will buy goodwill from you.

    Bit of a result today

Got a phonecall from the service manager who has granted me the free service. It seems that there was an anomoly with the paperwork from the sale and I am now awaiting my new FR badges to arrive before it goes in for a service. Im just glad it finally got sorted, as I felt a little bit ripped off to say the least.
