'92 Sierra vs '06 Octavia.....
Octavia gets off to a head start as it hasn't been standing for days, so has a far thinner layer of ice on. The Sierra starts the day looking like an 80s igloo.
Stage 1: Unlocking
The key slots in the sierras door lock and turns.... the crowd go quiet as they wait to see if it will do the central-locking-dance, but the doors unlock without a hitch.
The inside of the skodas lock is a block of ice. Out comes the zippo.
Stage 2: Opening the door.
And the ford was off to such a good start..... But now the door is frozen solid and the owner doesn't want to force it incase the door handle snaps off. Time to fetch the watering can.....
The octavia makes up a little ground. Less chance of things snapping so the door is opened with a bit of brute force.
Stage 3: Start your engines
Looks like the Skoda has a preheat! It starts with very little resistance and idles with it's distinct uddle uddle uddle.
The 14 year old underdog starts, as always, on the touch of a key. As always, it sounds like a steam engine for a second whilst the oil pressure gets up around the top end.
Stage 4: De-Ice and De-mist
The poor skoda driver has to fetch out the spray, scraper and a set of gloves. The inside mist is dealt with, with a quick go on the air-con.
Meanwhile, the ford has its heaters shoved on and the owner steps inside to have another cup of coffee.
