Yet another AMD Vice President resigns

Shockingly, this is the third leaving of a very senior AMD player in less than two months...

"We’re wondering who has the expertise to step into the rapidly cooling shoes of Hegberg or is it AMD’s discrete GPU business that is rapidly cooling?...

Especially since our understanding is that the teams within AMD responsible for its graphic business are struggling for budget and resource to even reengage with NVIDIA on a high-end technology level."
& yet from what I've read AMD/ATi has major design wins against nVidia with Apple & Dell albeit no doubt at a mainstream level?

Just because you have read about said wins doesn't mean it competes with the truth of future products...

If as has been said they have got 100% of the new Apple range & 100% of the new Dell range it doesn't sound like their discrete business is cooling though does it?
It also ought to give AMD revenue to fund further gfx development should management decide so to do (given that Fusion basically is planned to combine CPU & GPU) .

I do think that it's a bit unfair that the sales management appears to be the ones falling on their swords as without a competitive product range a sales force will always struggle.

3 ppl leave and everyone seems to think that amd is going under thats what generally happens in any jobs ppl come and go.
Everyone seems to forget that intel where the underdog for a long time and that its only been with introduction of the dual core and quad core, that they have become the processor of choice again!

And that matters for what exactly? The business is in much lower parts.

Not three; four. You've missed Paul Dal Santo, who was head of handheld and left recently. http://www.fabtech.org/content/view/3243

There was a hell of a lot going on at the time fo the 2900XT being released. What would you want a half developed product just so that they have one out?? I would rather have a developed late product than a major buggy one released on time. So its not the best and its got heat problems but it works well and fits where ATI said it would. Dont start on there drivers either as Nvidia suck there as well.

AMD better not die now. They have alot of catching up to do with Intel - gotta keep up with the competition. I hope that the replacement of the AMD vice would do a better job.

Re: Yet another AMD Vice President resigns

Presumably Intel can't let it die. The question is how much AMD's continued existence is down to Intel keeping it just alive enough to placate the anti trust people and what level that is.
I guess Intel could always score a few courtroom own goals or allow AMD to undercut some of its proces for a while if the anti trust guys got too keen.
AMD's execs aren't making this job too easy by continually legging it, but there you go...

Intel would crush AMD tomorrow if they had the chance, to say that they are keeping them alive is a laugh after the long Pentium-D period where Intel were a laughing stock.

They finally bounced back (and only really recently) and are now forging on ahead.

AMD really need to pull their socks up and get down to business, I am sure a lot of the current issues are due to the takeover/merger though, give them at least 12 months before jumping to any conclusions.

If they did crush them they would be a monopoly. Don't you think this would create greater problems than having them as a competitor would?
