No WAy....! Overclockers in administration? That don't sound good for one of the largest hardware sellers in the UK. Oh wait, it's overclock.co.uk. That made me feel a lot better. You got me there, Hexus

Market competition, who knows, there are lots of things you don't see.

It's quite worrying though, whilst somewhere like overclockers.co.uk is quite a specialist business, when they end up closing their doors it's a sign that a recession's on it's way....

The other signs like rising interest rates, lack of jobs in the paper atm and so on make me wonder if we aren't heading for more problems...

When your up against the likes of scan, komplett, dabs, Aria, Micro Direct and all the rest, it is going to be hard to capture a very strong customer base. I think the same happened to The Overclocking Store a number of years ago now. They were great to buy from yet they folded. As mycarsavw said there could be many things behind the scenes that have influenced what has happened today.

its so easy to get confused, when I saw this I thought ****, great etailer, what a shame, but that was (and is) www.overclockerS.co.uk, I wonder if others will associate the wrong site, names are so familiar. Was Overclock the site that focused on cooling solutions early on?

I think in the past alot of companies have had favourable treatment from their bank manager which has allowed them great flexibility in how they manage the purchasing and credit lines with suppliers.

However in the light of the bad lending scandals and the US sub-prime issue banks are now starting to get very particular as to how they do business and that flexibility is no longer there, as such more and more companies with little capitol are finding it hard to compete

well thats my take on it

You were right with that sentiment. And it was Overclock.co.uk, not to be confused with that other bunch who I wouldn't buy from if you were paying me.

Overclock had great customer service, but it looks as though that is something that comes at a price, in the form of lower margins and higher costs, which makes it harder to compete and survive in a market where people only look for the lowest prices.

You may be thinking of The Overclocking Store, which was based in Sheffield (IIRC) and closed a few years ago - they had an alternate site purely focused on cooling (the name of which currently eludes me).

We have received no information to suggest that.

Reliable sources say the company is in administration.

considering the phonelines are also not getting answered signs would say that the company has gone under. Bad news indeed - seems the bigger guys will just keep getting bigger now....

A couple of years ago their site was on the same level as their competitors. I've not bothered even checking it recently as the range and options shrank so much it made it a waste of time.

It's sad, but the PC market is hyper-competitive. There can't be a difference in products, as they are all supplied by the likes of AMD, Silverstone, Thermaltake etc etc. So competition is on price, range, customer service etc.

True. We'll often shop at the cheapest place to save a few quid. But when there is only the 'big boys' left and competition is at a minimal we'll be moaning.
