I can't help but feel having two (essentially) identical products in the wild with two completely different product names is only going to exacerbate the issue!

so what they are really doing is, as they did with some 8 series cards being renamed 9 series - they are going to call 9 series cards 10 series now.. wow i can really see how that is for our benefit

this is a really good idea..... hold on, I'll need to read it once more because I am confused again. Give me a min.

Why are they bothering, it just means that there will be two identical cards out on the market with different names. I wonder how many posts we will get on here about "what is better the 9800GT or the GT xxx? "

Things aren't really helped either by having two non-identical cards with exactly the same name, ie the 'old' GTX 260 and the 'new' GTX 260

Oh, but nvidia can sell more cards this way! People will think those are new models and feel the need to upgrade. Nvidia's marketing department seems to be getting all the funding these days

So basically in an attempt to end confusion about rebranded identical cards, and identically branded although different cards they're re-rebranding the all the cards into the new branding, meaning in some cases that identical cards have existed under 3 different nomenclatures.

Phew. Thank god I bought ATI.

.. so. is this anything to do with the reliability issues certain nvidia cards had, and now they have changed the production process they want a clean break with no confusion over which cards are a time bomb?

    Hmmmm. Interesting hypothesis.
