    HEXUS.beans :: PS3 UK release...in 2007?

Exclusive news from the front page of HEXUS.gaming:

Look anywhere on the web and the general consensus is of a March or April 2006 release date. This information is based on a press release from Sony back in May when they unveiled the PS3 amidst great media hype and furore.

But speaking from his mummy’s house in Hazbullshagga, HEXUS' grasping reporter Willy Deeplung, seems to have strong doubts about a March 2006 release… and seemed even uncertain of a 2006 release at all.
    Check HEXUS.gaming for more info.

Well, here in the UK we're used to getting Sony products after everyone else, so this seems quite feasible.

    Interesting theory Willy has there

If I understand correctly, what you are saying is that a 'Japan only' announcement/launch in the 'first half of 2006'...

...could well mean some products in Japan around June 06...

...then a build up to launching in the USA either Christmas 06 or Spring 07...

...which would see UK volume around Christmas 07

I wonder what it would do to the balance of console sales if Microsoft nailed their plans - but it was not possible to see a next generation PS product in UK shops for 2 more years ?...

Sounds about right for Sony at the moment. So we will get it late (as usual) and be the most expensive (as usual). Seems to me as if Sony may lose their crown if they keep annoying Europe. Roll on 360.

Next you will be telling me that the PS graphics solution is based (100% ?) on the chips that are being shipped today...

...whereas the graphics core in Xbox 360 contains some seriously next-gen stuff...

...as a result - the experience that PS users 'could' have on Christmas Eve 2007 will be around 2 years out of date

    Hmmm...

    Interesting point

So would that be the equivalent of buying a game-playing system this Christmas which has an FX5900 chip inside ?

Before the nextgen consoles were officially announced, I was more excited about the PS3, but after this news, it looks more and more like I'll be on the Xbox360 side this time round.

Worth saying that this is only based on what Willy is telling HEXUS...

...but there seems to be a certain logic to the timeline

Can you imagine being a developer - working on a fantastic new game for launch in Summer 2006 - which you had planned to release solely on PS ?

Well, looking at the PSP launch schedule, it was December 04 for Japan, March 05 for USA and September 05 for Europe.

Using that schedule for the PS3 means March 06 for Japan, July 06 for USA and therefore January 07 for the UK.

    ps3 delay

first time here on Hexus (great website )

    anyway
PS3's probably being delayed as the RSX is mostly intentioned to be a 65nm design, much the same as the Cell (why bother with 90nm when you have two 65nm fabs)
though 65nm would be tough as nails with 24 pipes
still, a 800mhz capable G70-like GPU would be something to see (and worth the wait)- why bother with a paltry 550 at 90nm?
I don't think it's important how advanced a game will be, but how fast it's going to perform- not much in games will need anything more than the frontiers of the dx9c API

Regardless of how advanced the hardware may be when it finally arrives lets hope Sony don't continue their trend of paltry launch titles.....Tekken "think of a number and double it" anyone?

We won't notice, we'll all be too busy playing "FIFA 2007 January Week Two Tuesday Afternoon Edition" on the X360!

As Nick said, (or at least, was getting at) it's not a problem exclusive to Sony, but the entire industry, but if you really want to blame someone, blame EA..
