HEXUS.beans :: XFX Graphics set to satisfy AGP power users?

This year we’ve finally seen the widespread adoption of the PCI-Express (PCIe) and, with it, perhaps not unsurprisingly, what seems to be the death toll of AGP.

If it's priced competitively it should have some takers, but the feeling I get from the perusal of various forums suggests a yearning for an AGP X1800 (which was on ATI's roadmaps at one point earlier this year) or 7800GT. I believe a second-hand 6800GT or X800XT goes for about £150, so hopefully there won't be an AGP premium bumping the price above the current PCI-E 6800GS.

    Still, it's better than nothing!

The situation with AGP is absolutley ridiculous. Do nVidia and ATi like losing money? There must be loads of people like me who would like a new card but cant have one. The 6800 GS is not enough. It wont even beat my current card so whats the point?

    What are they doing?

Are they thick? If one of them do it surley they are onto a winner. They would completly corner the market all on there own. I truly cant belive the lack of high end AGP cards.

You need to remember that currently there is no need for them to do it - they are shipping bucket loads of cards on PCI-E to system builders which make up a large *age of the market.

I think this is why XFX Have gone there route

    Cool

i think this agp situation is a joke i have just got a Gigabyte X800xl i wanted a 6800gt but no chance i want to keep my system for another year at least i can play games now so why should i upgrade.
I feel like i live in a state run by the powers above what happened to the consumer running the computer industry.(Guess i will have to live without SM3)

Yep I agree but the people who buy these systems often do not buy high end video cards.

The people who do usually build the system themselves.

There is alot of money still to be made making AGP cards.
