    HEXUS.beans :: Newegg.com set to buy Dabs.com?

A lot of people pass juicy beans to HEXUS - some good, some rotten - but here’s one we doubt is a yolk…
read more on this HEXUS.bean here and let us know your thoughts below...

if this all pans out to be true, we're kind of saddened to hear that another homegrown English company has passed to ownership outside of the UK, but wish its Managing Director David Atherton all the best in any future venture.

All stories come true in the end...

I used to be annoyed that I couldn't shop at Newegg- then their massive profiteering on Opterons changed my mind.

Same sh1t, different country. All Dabs seem to spam me with nowadays is uncompetitive offers on mobile phone contracts, so all in all the whole deal doesn't look to me to be a great loss to anyone.

Well at least Newegg have a better lineup of product that is just massive, more than any1 I've seen. I can understand if Newegg takes over Dabs but Tesco, sounds kinda weird to me.

    Primary kit:
    Fuji S5 Pro - Nikkor AF 50/1.8 - Nikkor AF 85/1.8
    Epson RD-1

    Film Kit:
    Leica M3 - Summicron 50/2 DR - Zeiss ZM 25/2.8 - M-Rokkor 40/2

    Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8

Doesn't £10 million strike you as a little low?

Man I hope this happens.....and Newegg bring 2 things to the UK market:

1: Prices as close to the US as they can

    2: Their HUGE product range

looking at Newegg procedues and reseller ratings all I can say is great. At least now someone might sort out Dabs appalling aftersales service.

I am worried about it to be fair.

What do you think Margin and profit get spent on? Not all the vendors out there spend them on sports cars and yachts. It cost money to have RMA people and Support staff, to market and advertise.

Margins are down - profits are down, re-investment might not happen.

    kalniel's system
A shame to see dabs go if it's true, but they really didn't give a great service IMO. There was a time when they were the place to go but the transition from magazine/phone based sales to web based never seemed to go well for me. The website was always unweildy and full of incorrect information, and they flat out refused to answer any technical questions about products.

Don't be fooled into thinking this means we'll get US prices over here - the overheads are larger, the tax is large. We might get wide choice, but the prices won't be any different from the other shops, which just vary depending on how much they 'precharge' for delivery or whatever.

It all comes down to Margins - NewEgg have executed well in the USA driven pricing down - but what do you think happens when there is no competition left?

OK I see your point there David but I'm not so sure they'll become the one and only in the UK.

Ah well we can only wait and see

Well, I personally can't fault Komplett at all, they are awesome - as are Aria. I've never had any troubles, and the phone support at Komplett was probably the best I've ever received - the recommendations were spot on and it was obvious they employed passionate techies not sales droids.

I'll always stay loyal to a company who offers service like this - for me it's more about service than price. It'll be interesting to see how NewEgg fare - they are massive - I hope Aria and Komplett aren't too hurt by their presence.
