TBH they should sod off to america and close the UK arm, theyre a bunch of amateurs, cheap prices, but it appears that means they cant afford any actual staff to answer their phones or tech queries.

I had to double take the headline as I thought it read "eBay set to withdraw from the US market".

Now this is big news, but that would have been bigger still

I dont know how they thought they compete against the likes of Newegg who managed to combine great prices AND great customer support.

Saying that, what ever happened about Newegg opening over here, which was announced ages ago (albeit on another site).

Someone at work visited Ebuyer yesterday, as we work pretty closely with them. By all accounts they are sinking a boatload of money into the UK operation, which should help them correct their defficiencies.

seems like Newegg aren't so cheap as they used to be though (esp. as iirc a no. of their "competitors" are now actually parented by the same company )

eBuyer are the pits - I have tried returning a MS Remote control that failed and they've had it since August last year. They're not quibbling over having to replace it, they are just so fecking crap they've never done it. I've since gone out and bought a new one from somewhere else.

Has anyone tried ringing their telephone number? It's an impossibility to get through, you either get a "sorry all lines are busy" or you get put in a queue for 20 minutes and then you're told "sorry all lines are busy" and disconnected.

I raised complaint after complaint with them and they just copy and paste the same bull back - "I'll get onto our returns department and get this sorted for you asap".

My friends have had similar experiences - one had the wrong hard drive shipped but after my hassles didn't bother to attempt to return it. Another one has had same issues - delivering completely the wrong item altogether.

Everyone should avoid this shoddy outfit, it only heartens me to hear they've tanked in the US cos the UK one will follow soon enough.

mmmmh.... i've shopped with ebuyer before and the only problem i ever had was that they shipped me 2 of the same product (but charged once) and their customer support completely failed me when trying to return the second item, so my brother ended up with a free logitech mouse ... that said - i always use my heavily insured credit card when shopping online so i can dispute any charges if needed

I think with ebuyer if you have a problem with returns just make a fuss and some nice person will sort it out within a day or so

Only one purchase from ebuyer it required RMAing and it all took more time than expected but a working product did arrive. However no refund of my postage!

Competition among retailers is always good for the customer so it's too bad eBuyer is pulling out of the US market. It's tough to compete with NewEgg's prices and service though. Their selection pales next to NewEgg's as well.

Im happy enough using ebuyer, me and my dad have used them for year, only had a few niggles, but nothing has really gone horribly wrong for us.

I dont always just use them, they do have a good range, but I look around (generally them , OCUK and Scan) for the best value or the best product.

I would have thought, like alot of others, that any etailer trying to compete with newegg would fail. Newegg do seem to be THE DON in the USA and ive very little bad complaints about it.

They tend to be fine TILL something goes wrong. Then you have hell. I was like quite a few here, perfectly happy with them. But then when you have to RMA something.. then the fun starts. In my case it was a DOA hard drive. E-Note system was of no use whatsoever, took about a week then i find my note was closed.. way to go ebuyer. This was at the time when they insisted on having no phone number to call, however not one to give up easily, I rang every number I could possibly find relating to them (including the information on the domain registration), but it was all dead ends. After sending a e-note every day for a week, they actually decided to ring me. Two weeks in and understandably im getting kind of angry, so the guy tries to placate me with outright lies "we will refund your carriage both that you paid for us to send it, and for you to return it to us"... never saw any money for that, any e-notes regarding it where closed.

In the end I finally got a replacement hard drive. But at the end of it all, I was well and truly stung so I will not do business with them again, as cheap as their goods are. I shall stick to scan MD and OCUK.
