lovely article by The Inq - "accidentally" missing the 6 month delay from x1800 release to these drivers, and the laughable performance defecit

They didn't say the drivers come soon after the x1800 release, they just state "supports all the modern graphic cards including X1900, X1800 cards and the older ones too". Which, as far as I can see, is true, x1800 being 6 months old notwithstanding.

it's true, but the article talks as if ati have managed something special here. the reason for their 6 month delay isn't to add any new GL support (as needed for modern X servers like XGL), nor to sort out the performance gap - it's because they really don't care

oh my goodness! support for xfree86 4.1? the 4.1 released in june 2001? honestly, is that even worth mentionning, since it's been supported by ati's drivers since they first started releasing them?

note also no mention of XOrg 6.9/7.0, which are what modern distributions use, as released just before Christmas (these actually work if you ignore ati's supposedly wonderful installer & copy files to the right places rather than ati's wrong places)

fuad should be ashamed of himself, this is no better than telling people "pentium 4 has the highest clock speeds on the market, take THAT amd!"
