HEXUS.beans :: AMD bans Intel notebooks!

Thou shalt NOT talk about Intel.
It's a competitive ol' world out there, ain't it? Take AMD, which, as you well know, very recently announced its intention to merge with ATI Technologies to, amongst other things, take on those Intel noobs.

It seems AMD ain't stopping there, though... Image is important, as is evident from some amusing 'restrictions' applied to an AMD ODM event being held in India next month.
    We spill the beans.

I would have guess Intel might have been doing it all the time.. perhaps more discretely.. like.. use an AMD notebook, and you're quietly sacked the next month..

Dual Intel Xeon Quad Core 2.66Ghz, 16GB FB-DIMM, FireGL goodness...

That's really quite petty in my opinion. *

How inconvenient is that going to be for all those people with centrino based (for example) notebooks? It's not like anyone's going to say 'oh, you're using an intel based system? you know what, i think i'll tell thousands of people to buy one right now'.

    * Assuming it's true of course

I can understand (to a limited degree) why they wouldn't want Intel notebooks doing AMD presentations etc, but does it really matter that much?

I think it's acceptable for Intel not to be discussed at her competitor's presentations, but come on, the majority of laptops in the world are Intel... That's going to cut out an awful lot of people, and as pointed out, is awfully petty.

who is likely to be at the event? is it AMD staff only? or is it journalists, customers etc? If the later then it's pretty rediculous if you demand people go out and buy and AMD notebook if they want to attend if they have only got an intel one...!

Someone should turn up with a K6 laptop (such as this top of the range K6-III)

It's an ODM summit... so it'll be mainly populated by Original Design Manufacturers

Wonder how many notebooks will run out of power halfway through the presentations then

It would be a PR disaster if intel product was seen running AMD products especially as they are both in the same business. It would be an own goal.

It just business and good PR on AMD's part, plus the free publicity they are getting right now. It's a win win solution for AMD.

I use a Centrino notebook - have done for around 4 years - I've never been not allowed in any events due to it

Remember the shot of the formula 1 car (Ferrrari) with a Intel notebook on top of it.

Its not a sensible buisness decision - doesn't make your partners happy telling them what to do...

Perhaps they could just stick AMD stickers over the top of the Intel sticker - but if they (whoever) use Dell laptops then they are (currently) exclusively intel so it's a bit impossible to avoid...

Just do what TV shows do when using Dells; stick your own company's logo over the top. No one would ever suspect them of being Dells then.

Isn't this bordering on Anti-trust? Though, to be fair, it's their right - even if it is a little short-sighted...
