This is a testament to our execution as well as the execution of our Add-In-Card partners...

Well at least they are sorting it now rather than selling them and then realising something is wrong.

They arent really needed right now anyway and the boards currntely available are ample enough for todays games.

Things of course will cahnge with Vista and when crysis etc is relaesed but for now i cant see people being bothered if there is a slight delay.

Some people will be gutted, but it's a niche product so it's not going to be a disaster.

I bet someones getting their hair dried by an nvidia exec right now though

I think you hit the nail on the head. While it is embarrassing to screw up and put the wrong resistor on the boards, it would be worse to fix it after release. So nVidia did the right thing fixing them before they went to market.

I'm a bit gutted because I have the money to buy 2 8800GTXs and the Quad core Kentsfield, and some other bits to make them work together
But its not a total disaster as it will be rectified soon enough.

And David, nice system mate, where did you manage to get a hold of the QX6700?

Nightmare.. how are they going to hard launch when resellers are expecting cards in the next two days.... a lot of people are going to be gutted!!

Does this affect ALL 8800GTX's or only certain ones?

But it's the sort of error I'd make building something in the electronics lab. It's not so good when your production run has errors like that, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah atleast they are getting it sorted and working (atleast they are testing...)
Still pretty lame how they missed a small mistake. Well a massive mistake sending them out and recalling them, this has put me off considering buying one. Im no ATI fanboy (never owned one...) but im going with ATI on this one.

I think executing all their staff and those at the OEMs is a bit rough. Guess the GPU biz is pretty cut-throat these days, but wouldn't it save bullets just to execute the guy who got the resistor value wrong?

yep we dont want to see another 7900 series do we. (in case you have been locked in a cave for the last 6 month they had a high failure rate, especially the pre overclocked ones.... or so word on the net says)

Well with the overclocked ones it seems obvious that they would have reliability issues. If they could run safely overclocked they would just make a higher speed SKU.

While yes i agree that logic would say overclocked ones are more likely to have reliability issues, i guess it wasnt so obvious to XFX and BFG.

I think the way it was handled by nvidia did the most damage, denying the problem even existed. At the Time employees where leaking that nvidia knew about the problem, whilst 7900's where dropping like flies all over the net.

I am just glad they came out and said yes we have a problem, yes we are solving it before release. They do however need look at the quality control if simple mistakes like different resistor values are passing through the net.
