Have just visited the new Beta Hexus channel, and noticed the above title, in the Ad space.
Naturally i have Firefox and Ad-block. Nice ![]() Then again, maybe i should add Hexus to the white list, i do like you guys. Tough one.... I like your sense of humour though

Re: Adblock? :(
It's clear - we make revenue and manage to deliver content from sponsorship and advertising.
We pay real people real money on a full time basis to maintain and update the sites. With the current high speed internet connections there is simply no excuse to block adverts on sites which you regularly visit. We can look at a micro-payment and 'subscription' model if people would prefer - however right now we are keen to keep HEXUS free. The AdBlock background will be rolled out across all HEXUS sites and will be the 'new way' for you to understand we do expect support ![]() I think you would all be shocked if you knew how much it cost to run HEXUS per year - with over 16 people working on the site(s) David |

But for as long as advertisers want to distract my attention to them and away from what i'm trying to look at, Adblock exists. OK, "*forums.hexus.net*" just made the whitelist.

Re: Adblock? :(
We work very hard to make sure our adverts are relevant - it's a costly process but we want them to add value to you, the reader.
I am not going to tel you what to do I'd like you to view the adverts and hopefully find them helpful. We have had some amazing ones running recently - including Coke which I know for a fact people loved.... I just want to make sure people know - we are doing a hell of a lot of work and it is a small way that you can help contribute to the growth of the site....

Re: Adblock? :(
Firefox with Adblock and Flashblock
Adblock is disabled for all of HeXus but when all the ads are flash based Flashblock kicks in. Any way of having non-flash ads or are they things of the past? |

It is on the list of things to have in place - for specific features. There is so many ways we can do things - we need to get more developers But to pay them we need adverts... ooh vicious circle of business

Re: Adblock? :(
Good news.
In days of old static ads were brilliant, the budget YELLOW/RED/GREEN blinking gif/flash ads came along and ruined things. If we can go back to static ads, all the better. |

Re: Adblock? :(
I've got to agree on the flash ads thing, I had to remove flash altogether from my work system cos the cpu fan kept blowing a gut whenever anything flash based popped up on screen. So now I'm not getting any of your expensive ads!

Re: Adblock? :(
ironically, i think the coke ad does some browser sniffing to decide how to work - a non-animated non-flash version seems to be used when i use a linux browser

Re: Adblock? :(
I don't mind ads myself, and I fully appreciate the fact that Hexus is free because it is ad-supported. I don't mind Flash ads (usually) and the Coke ad is brilliant. In fact, there's only really one kind that gets my goat on Hexus - Vibrant In-Text. I absolutely DESPISE that crap; I despise most ad forms that obstruct the content on the page that you're trying to view, especially when the damn stuff is activated just by having your mouse pointer in the vicinity of it. Banners, yes. Flash, yes, OK. Send me "carefully targetted emails from selected partners"
if you absolutely must. But FFS stop with the mouseover activated popover crap please!

Re: Adblock? :(
Possibly, as long as they don't start appearing in our posts. Or were you being sarcastic?
![]() As long as we don't end up like those boards who have stupid random links. I type the word fork and the word is turned into a hyperlink and I'm sent off to John Lewis where I can buy "some of the world's best forks" |
