This happens every few months - a company comes along that says "WE HAVE TIHS NEW IDEAR" and all it is is just DRM free MP3s supported by ads. It's possibly a slightly different execution of the idea, but still the same concept, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the success level was the same as all the other companies that have been doing the same thing.

Fair point, but Sony BMG's involvement does add a lot of legitimacy.

Hmm so I can download it for free from We7 and sit through the same 10 second ad everytime I want to listern to my song. Or I can download it for free from any number of other sources and not have to listern to an ad?? Which would you chose?

And for the record yes I do download music and if its crap I delete it if its good I buy the album, I have bought dozens of albums I would never have considered because I downloaded a few songs to see if its any good.

Case in point I downloaded 4 or 5 Matthew Ryan songs from Limewire listerned to them realised he was a genius went to his web site and bought his whole back catalouge direct, they arrived from America in a few days and they where all singed, bargin. So I got some great music which the artist took some time to sign for me (I didnt even ask) he got all the cash from the sales, minus the disc and case, the record company got nothing. To me a win win situation

That's still not in any way shape or form legal and certainly doesn't make it acceptable!

The only original thing i can see that We7 are doing is allowing you to download a song with an ad at the start of it, which i agree isn't attractive at all. Legal ad supported streaming has been around for ages. I mentioned Imeem in general discussion which deals with 4 major labels - Warner, BMG, Universal and EMI Imeem makes music free - Dec. 10, 2007 (I don't work for them by the way even though this my 3rd post about them, i just think it's a really good site )

So if you want to see what a band is like before buying a track there's no longer any excuse for downloading music when streaming is so readily available, oh and with streamed music you don't have to sit through 10 seconds of adverts.

Bleep.com have had a great streaming system going for a good while now. Yeah the music is lesser known stuff but the way that it works is very clever! I often check out new releases on there and if i like it i often buy it.

I know it not legal, however neither is ripping a CD to your iPod/HDD?whatever or making a back up in the UK as there is no fair us policy in place, does it stop any one?

If we are talking decent site for streaming the Last.fm is pretty good, gives you if you like this try this type suggestions and is an all round nice site.
