I think its pretty hillarious... did the people who where using the 'bank' lose any money? if not then isnt it a totally victimless crime (assuming you dont count the mugs who got sucked into it in the first place as victims)?. Infact, it brought attention to EVE all over the web so they got free advertising.

They lost in game money, which has a real word equivalent (to a degree).

And nothing is victimless in Eve

I'm sure the corp lost cash, but lets face it, they was using the ISK for trading etc to make more ISK, so chances are the people who put their money in didn't lose anything.

Still, more players in eve will always be good.

I've heard from a reliable source that all 'roids are abused by Chriba before they get spawned

As the game is a 'sandbox' so to speak, I have little sympathy - yes sometimes you take risks to earn more isk but the potential to scam in Eve is far higher. It was a risk, they took it and lost - the only person I trust in Eve 100% is myself.

Its a little naughty - trading the in-game money for RL money, but its not the first or last time it'll be done. Afaik CCP just banned 2000+ accounts - mainly used my macroers which will sell isk for money, Ive just read that the chinese government made efforts to ban trading ingame currency for RL currency.

Im more shocked at the amount of hours that would have been lost whilst making that isk, I know Eve is a time sink but ack

hehe, they call real life 'RL' on the forums, how cute

What exactly was the 'interest' on their money to want to bother putting it in a bank when i imagine it would be safer sitting in your own account?!

Some 3.1% a month in a savings account. 1.5% on Checkings, not sure what the rates are on the Bonds.

And no player lost any money. Ricdic stole "only" 200billion ISK out of a total 2.6trillion, of which some 700b was liquid. A lot of ISK was withdrawn, but I don't believe they have had to liquefy any assets. Even if they did, I doubt they liquidized any of their "major" assets, like Titan class BPO's.

    Insert witty comment here.

I refuse to believe that i'm the only person reading this thing "What a bunch of sad ....".

Cannot believe how in depth and seriously this game is taken. Banking, 'Businesses' folding... jesus.

It all depends on your tastes, if you were to list all your hobbies im sure there would be a few some people would class as sad. I do enjoy my games, some i take more seriously than others, but in each of them if i lost something that id worked for i'd be annoyed, maybe even upset. Despite this iv got an ex-cheerleader for a gf, a gorgeous daughter and a life at university that would make many green with envy! Does taking my games seriously make me sad, or just an interest of mine i take pleasure in working towards? Its all relative

I agree, I enjoy plenty of games too, and i'd be pissed off if I were to lose something i'd spent a long time doing, but it's how serious this game is in the first place that bewilders me. It's like that second life game... if you want to invest your money and gain interest and "work" to buy nice things, surely time would be better spent doing it in "RL".

    Current setup: Sanyo EM-S1055 800W | Cannon 'Chester' 4Hob | Zanussi FrostFree | Phillips HD4666 3000W | Swan ST1020 2Slice.

Agreed, I too have a lovely wife, home and a son, just because I play Eve that makes me 'sad'?. The 'RL' thing just saves a little typing - mainly whilst im playing Eve.

The one thing I do like about Eve though which is 'RL' related, is that you can pay for your gametime using ingame currency - just paid for both of my accounts for another 30 days, just some time spent manufacturing etc whilst doing other things.

I dont think this issue here is that playing EVE is sad. Its more the fuss over the 'theft' of this 'currency'

The money didn't exist in the first place. Its not a real bank, with real things happening. They can just code back in another 200bn ISK! Selling it on may be against the games t&c's, true, but thats why he was banned. The sad bit is people making so much fuss over something that has no tangiable existence in the real world.

That depends. I play Eve to get away from real life. I like sitting in a fantasy world and being someone else. I see it no different to getting lost in one of the many books I read, apart from I can decide the path the 'book' takes.

I refuse to believe that i'm the only person reading this thing "What a bunch of sad ....".

And it's that depth which a lot of people, including myself enjoy. Just because we like a game that has more 'depth' to it doesn't make us 'sad'. If people enjoy playing Pacman to let themselves unwind, or enjoy planning a huge scam in Eve: Why does it matter to you or anyone else? Isn't the only thing that matters is that the gamer is enjoying it?

Erm...they absolutely can not do this. I think you've misunderstood what's happened here

    How?

This would be like somebody stealing from a GB in WoW. If the admins wanted to type 'create x gold' to put it back, they could.

This is not real money thats been stolen. It doesn't exist. Its been SOLD for real money, and actually, if I was in his position and had to pay real life debts over a game, I know what I'd do.
