True, there are always plenty of people want to scam you, commit piracy upon you or otherwise just blow you up. Same with the EVE banking scene. And that's all condoned, its all part of the game if you are dumb enough to fall for it.

Sell off those ill gotten gains for cash however is a big no no and it'll have gotten his account banned . If it's stolen in the game it stays in the game. That way the victim always has chance to steal it back

Yeah, I spammed this a while back in the EVE Thread, think this is the second time this year a big rip off has hit EVE. The first one was similar but the guy walked away with the billions of isk and several big corps folded because of it. Think there is a video of it all on youtube somewhere. Will continue to happen to as long as its allowed. Can't really stop it as piracy is part of the game you would have to be trusting to pass the isk off to one of the big eve banks. At times you can understand why people turn to piracy in EVE as its a good way to make ISK without putting in the hard work.

Apparently thats what it stands for, but I've never seen it called that in game.

ISK is the real life currency of Iceland, which is where the game is made. They just ended up using ISK as their in game name too. I think the 'Inter-Steller Kredits' was more of an after thought.

    Ohhh, Piracy is hard work

To pull a scam like this off can take years of planning and dedication. Even if the original idea wasn't to rip people off, gaining that trust would have taken a long time.

Personally there are very few people I give any ISK to, all of which I know in real life.

For a scam this size, yes the hard work is there, but for those players that will run around in small pirate groups and can flip, steal ships etc and basically just gate camping waiting for the right ship to come along.

Another thing to keep in mind is that he vastly undersold the ISK.

Assuming that it's referring to the American billion:
    1,000,000,000 * 200 = 200000000000

Now in Eve you can "sell" the timecards that are used to pay for the game to other players. This is a player controlled market, but they generally sell for around 700 million ISK. A Game card costs about £25 for 60 days. So:

    200000000000 / 700000000 = 285.71.... time cards
    285 * £25 = £7142.85 in "real" money equivalent.

Of course not. I was just giving some indication of what the 'game legal' value of the ISK is.
