No servers to be found - D-Link DI-604 router

ok, this may not be the correct forum for this query, but here it goes (btw, dear admins, please feel free to move this post to a more appropriate location if you think it fit):

i am on a telewest (now virgin media) cable modem. i also have a D-LINK DI-604 router between my pc and the modem. now when i try to find servers for cs: source or half life (or presumably any steam game), i can find at most 2 servers.

when i connect to my modem directly, without using the router, i find hundreds.

now i know it's not the filter settings or anything because i did not fiddle with them. it's also not a port issue as i did the steam connection test with the router and it passed with flying colours.

does anyone have an idea how to fix this? i read something about flood controls somewhere. is that maybe something to look into?

thanks in advance for any help!

Your network must be configured to allow Steam access to the following ports:

    Steam Client
UDP 1200 (For the Friends service)
    UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
    TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive
    Dedicated Server
UDP 27015 and 27020 (Default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV ports)
    TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)
Note: Windows XP SP1 firewall users running Source Dedicated Server must open TCP Port 27015 for Rcon to work

Hopefully, this should allow you to gain more access to the servers

but when i did the steam connection test it came up as all clear. do you still think it could be a port issue?

btw, i am running vista business 64 bit, in case that makes a difference to anything...

Ahh - I've not played with steam and vista I'm afraid so I couldn't really comment on compatability.

the compatibility is not the issue (thank god). the game runs fine on vista.

it's just that i can't find servers when i connect through my router. and for reasons of paranoia, i don't like connecting to my modem directly.

    any views?
