    CS:S Bots Released Monday

Doug Lombardi sent out a notice to all the big wigs out on the Internet that announces the Counter-Strike: Source Bot will be sent out via Steam on Monday, in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr:

"The official Counter-Strike Bot will be released for Counter-Strike: Source on Monday (January 17th). The Bot features enhanced abilities and will be available for all owners of Counter-Strike: Source. Also included in Monday's release is an updated version de_tides, rebuilt by Turtlerock Studios. For more information or to purchase your copy of Counter-Strike: Source, please visit www.steampowered.com."

good news imo. means I can praccy when peeps on the network are downloading a lot as has been the case this week.

Should we add them to the server to fill up space if possible?

Personally I think we should if there is 0-7 human players but 8 and over, humans can have a good (ie. practise for clan matches) game 4v4.

Couldn't agree more - nothing worse than an emptyish server. Ultimately I suppose it depends on the bot code though. If they're crap and sulk in corners then no. Or what happens if all the humans die? we don't want to sit watching bots running around.

Ok i'm going to say this now. Bots will destroy a server. Simple, but your gonna want me to explain why aint you

Simply that bots will drive away any good or experienced players from a server. A lot of the experienced CS players will look at the config of a server via HLSW or similar tools before joining - that will tell them things like if bots are on/off, if ff is on etc.

Bots are fine for your personal PC/lan, and even for clan practices but for a live public server? no chance. I would possibly enable them on the server if theres an option with them to only have bots when theres no humans on the server, but tbh it wouldnt make much difference with respect to adding ppl to our server

If the servers empty and you want to play on it, join for 10 mins or so and ppl will probably join you. Unless theres a 12-1 vote against me from the rest of the ppl who paid i wont be enabling bots on our server tho - case in point, i joined it when empty this morning and within 30seconds 2 other random ppl joined

And a new map..pah well it could be a worse one, but de_tides is hardly the best map to remake Still waitin for siege, assult etc (officially)

    Mac Pro, 2x Quad core 2.8ghz Xeon, 512mb 8800GT, 4gb DDR2 FB-Dimm
Macbook, 1.8ghz Core Duo, 2GB Ram, Superdrive
    iPhone 2G 2.0.1
"Is it a coincidence that an anagram of gordon brown is "born do wrong" ?, I rest my case.

I agree with Spud but i would like to enable them for clan practices so that we can improve tactics and teamwork.

Well I think that bots should be enabled if there is only one REAL player on the server. Therefore, that player might not just leave upon finding it empty. He might play on until another REAL player comes, and then the bot gets kicked.

Is it possible to enable a bot if there is either 0 or 1 players in the server?

I personally don't play on a server if there's no one to play with, so maybe this way you'd get more players. Otherwise, a player will come, find it's empty, and then leave. This will repeat until something is organised or a group of friends come in.

hmmm, bots wouldn't work for practice though - really you need to be practising against 4 people who are also working as a team; Team work wins rounds.
