User Reviews on front page of HEXUS.gaming – We want your opinion

We understand there's a whole host of different opinions on most video games so now’s your chance to make your opinion heard and known to the masses.

Instead of just reading my reviews, with me waffling on about how great I think Heavy Rain is, or how decidedly average The Saboteur was, we’re giving you the chance to put the world to rights and get your name up in lights on the front page of HEXUS.gaming on a regular basis.

For each major game that comes out we'll create a separate thread on the forums entitled User Reviews - [The Game, i.e. Mass Effect 2]. What we'd like from you is a summary of your thoughts of the game in question -- something brief and to the point.

There are no rules on how you want to format your review though we’d expect it be at least a paragraph long. You could, if you like, write a list of good and bad points instead and a brief summary sentence or two summarising your thoughts. This is your chance to tell the world what you think.

As soon as a few reviews appear in the forum thread we’ll immediately (well, as soon as I see it!) create a front page post on HEXUS.gaming (http:\\gaming.HEXUS.net) for all to see. Subsequent reviews written on the forum will also be added to the post with each reviewer being credited on the review.

HEXUS.gaming has industry bigwigs, publishers and developers checking reviews regularly, as well as readers from across the Globe, so you're guaranteed a big audience.

I’ll still be reviewing games. In fact, HEXUS.gaming is going to have a stronger focus on game reviews over the coming months with shorter, to the point reviews on all major titles.

If there’s a game that you want to review that we haven’t created a thread for, just let me know via a PM and I’ll be happy to create one. If anyone has anything that they’ve already written in another thread that they want to be included just copy and paste it into the specific game’s thread.

Don’t be shy, you don’t have to be a great writer to tell us your opinion, I’m not. You just need to be a gamer with an opinion. Just make sure you follow this simple format:

Guideline: 100 - 500 words. If it's a little less or a bit more it's no big deal!

HEXUS.gaming reserves the right not to publish your opinion on the main channel. Examples of reasons why your post may not be included could be swearing, text talk (please write in English,) racism etc..

The first game threads will be let loose on you tomorrow, including Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2, Heavy Rain and Aliens vs Predator. I hope you’ll all join in!

From this point forth, you'll see in our review section which games are covered by our members and which ones are from the official team. It will simply have in brackets after the game (user or official)

Don’t post your opinions on game’s here! Wait for the official User Review thread to open, or let me know via a PM if there’s a game you want to cover that hasn’t got a thread.

If you'd like your real name credited to the review, please let me know what it is otherwise you'll be referred to by your forum name.

Most user reviews will launch on Mondays and/or Thursdays.

Hehe, once I start ploughing through this pile of ummm, let me count them, 17 games still on the shelf waiting to be played I could do a write up for them as I go. I assume you would only want latest games released in the last few weeks etc?

17 games!! That's worse than me. I can't cope. I've got Bad Company 2, White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain, FFXIII, and Mass Effect 2. Want to play all of them for fun but they'll all too time consuming!

No, it's fine if they're from before. But I think we'll stick to this year, so from Bayonetta and Darksiders onwards.

Now this I like. With so much going on elsewhere, I rarely have the time or patience to read through masses of text. Count me in!

This is a brilliant idea!
Who decides what goes on the front page if several people submit a review for the same game? Would it be you (or someone else from H3XU5) that decides, or would we get a poll to choose? After all, we're the people you're aiming these things at so surely it's better to let us decide what we want rather than you telling us what we want?

Also, just as another idea, any chance we could do reviews of other things? Peripherals and other items like that, stuff that you don't generally review on Hexus.. I'd quite like to try and do a review of my new mouse and I'm sure a few others would like to do some reviews (DisturbedGuy did a really good one on his Fractal Design R2 case ). Just something for you to ponder.

Since Saracen has yet to find any new games without DRM or a finite lifespan of activation servers etc, his gaming time is limited to Pong


Matty - Certainly something we can look at, with the amount of new hardware released it would be good to see what the average member thinks of it, not just professional reviewers. Get it posted chap

Not to mention there would be reviews from a wider range of products which was one of the major suggestions in 0iD's poll where people thought Hexus was lacking.

Also, before the prospective reviews get published to the front page maybe they could be unleashed upon hexus.community for vetting/scrutiny in the form of a poll ?

Borderlands (This is the cause of the back log, taking me to long to get through it)

NHL 2k10 (Played a quick game shelved to get Borderlands done for now)

Forza 3 (Did a few seasons then MW2 landed)
Dead Space (£2 new and still sealed when the local game closed its doors and they were chucking out stock)

That's the list of unplayed and in the pile atm lol AvP landed to played a bit of MP on that so Borderlands got put on hold for a few days, now back to Borderlands. I should stop buying games but when you see bargains for new games out 2 - 4 weeks earlier going for £15 online or an ebay special where no one bids and you get it for a couple of quid xD

My resolution was to get through the games I have now and then get a stack of new ones. That lasted 4 weeks and I went deal hunting and got Bayonetta and Darksiders for £45 for both instead of £40 a pop. NHL 2k10 was £8 on zavvi xD I just need to leave the wallet elsewhere, as far away from me as possible
