    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Vista x64 crashes

Is it just me, but does STALKER crash a lot in x64 Vista, even tho I have patched it to the latest version (& lost my saves)

Have seen THIS workaround, but i dont know if it actually works at all.

The game doesnt support x64 operating systems, let alone Vista. There are people on here running it on x64 Vista though, but I dont know what issues they had.

Theres supposedly a new patch coming out tomorrow or today. I assume you're using the current patch?

I am using Stalker with 32Bit Vista at the moment, the first release was absolutely terrible in Vista and there are a lot of general issues with this game at the moment also

The update patch version 1.0001, resolved a lot of the frame rate issues for me.I thought all the issues had been resolved and re-started the game from the beginning.. which was very annoying...

    http://www.stalker-game.com/en/?page=patches

Anyway I have now got up to the point where you assault the large compound after taking out the tower snipers. Every time I try to save the game through F6 or press ESC the game kicks me out into Windows, its almost like a rest button.

There are still compatibility issues in Vista.....

Has anyone got the same issues with XP...

Yup, try & quicksave & it boots you out, not all the time tho Very odd.
Shame as otherwise it's be a great game. Reminds me of Vamire Masquerade: Bloodlines, superb gameplay but buggy & unfinished.

@ChrisP - I play on XP (didn't feel it prudent to up to Vista since I use this PC solely for gaming) and I have no issues.

I sincerely don't mean this in a pissy kind of way but I guess you have to accept these issues since the game isn't supported on Vista right?

Fingers crossed for the next patch, perhaps this will be the one to change all that and let Vista players get involved.

Again no noticeable problems for me on XP, certainly not the f6 save issue you mention, so it's more likely this is a problem with vista.

I'm sure that they will release patches to fix these issues as fast as they can, annoying for users at present though.

i got stalker running on a dual boot xp/vista machine the performance on xp is light years ahead at the moment using the latest nvidia drivers for both os.

dont know if anyone else has this but the game starts off underground talking to the guy and i get roughly the same fps as xp around 75 then you head out and up the stairs xp stays around 50fps whilst vista drops to 1fps

    Yeah of course dude

I accept the little bugs with Vista, hopefully these will be ironed out ASAP

I think stalker is a great game, playability is excellent. Splinter Cell double Agent is also amazing and seems to run fine in Vista

Thanks dude, I will check out your link and see what happens

this sort of pisses me off considering the original STALKER was supposed to be one of the few games that used 64 bit which allowed larger areas and other crap that don't seem to be in the game. I haven't actually gotten past the first mission yet because of crashing on saves.
