I've recently bought the PS3 solely to experience what to me is one of the most cinematic games ever made: MGS4. I thought this game was going to be a PS3 exclusive and now have found out that it isn't. I've also herd that the new Final Fantasy is comming to the XBOX. Thus I now am having serious doubts about future Sony exclusives. What I mean to say is if these games are comming out on the 360, what use is there owning a PS3? Could you kind people kindly shed any light on any decent FUTURE exclusives I can look forward to on this console. Or would it be wise to sell it and revert back gaming on my 360? ![]() BTW - The the sole purpose of this post is not to see which console is the best (the 360 or the PS3), just to ascertain whether my PS3 is worthwhile on the long run. |

Re: PS3 a good investment?
No gaming console is ever a good investment - they are now produced in such large numbers that they'll never be collectors items and thus their value will only go down as more hit the market and they are eventually replaced by more desireable models.
But as far as whether it's worth the money in terms of your enjoyment, what on earth has exclusivity got to do with anything? Does a game eventually coming out on another system somehow retro-actively reduce your enjoyment of the title when you played it? No, down with exclusives I say - so long as two systems are of comparible, or at the least, scalable, features then it's in everyone's best interests for games to be released on multiple systems, leaving the differentiation to be achieved by price, reliabilty and non-gaming features such as blu-ray. |

Re: PS3 a good investment?
I've held off buying a PS3 for now, even though there are some pretty nice games on it at the mo - will get once GT5 comes out, as i am a big fan, and it's a very playable racer.

Re: PS3 a good investment?
Best thing for owning a PS3 is the BluRay player.
Other then that, my PS3 has been mostly unused, not a single game I am interested in playing on it (the few that are I have bought on 360 for live support)...and the 360 makes a better media centre on-the-whole. The 2 games I have wanted since I bought my PS3 have just been delayed and delayed and delayed to the point when they are fast becoming vaporware (GT5 and RE5) |

Re: PS3 a good investment?
The PS3's Blu-Ray player is only relatively good value compared to other Blu-Ray players (even though they start at about £220, I'd recommend the £299 PS3 over players because the PS3 will likely support the final Blu-Ray standard when it's completed). For me, £300 is not a good price for an HD disc player which offers very little over (£10) DVD except better picture/sound quality and more expensive movies. Blu-Ray players and the PS3 will undoubtedly be far cheaper in future, so unless you're foaming at the mouth with how awful your DVD collection looks right now, it's surely preferable to wait until Blu-Ray 2.0 players are £99 and the movies are cheaper.
kalniel, if Residual already owned a 360 (which he did) and bought a PS3 for the exclusives, which are now coming out on 360 anyway, then that is definitely going to impact the PS3's value for him. If I already had a 360, I'd see if I could sell my PS3 on eBay for roughly what I paid for it, and then probably/possibly buy one again in future when it offers better value. If I didn't have a 360, I'd hold onto the PS3 for the multi-region, cheap import games and keyboard/mouse support. PS3s with BC have occasionally increased in value since Sony reneged on their Playstation "core values", interestingly - every so often on eBay, the price spikes for them. ![]() Edit: and lol at revol68. RE5 will honestly be less racist on PS3 than on 360, because you'll be playing it on a black console. ![]() |

Re: PS3 a good investment?
The lime green one is forever burned into my memory.
They showcased several colours before the Wii launch, and implied a choice, but I guess as long as they're still selling every white unit they make then there's no real pressure to offer alternatives. Which is a shame, because I don't like white. I'd certainly have preferred black or silver or carbon or burgundy or crimson & onyx. Anything really. Except lime green. |

Re: PS3 a good investment?
I'd hold on to your PS3. It's still early days for it. When developers start to get to grips with the hardware I reckon you'll see an mprovement in the games for it.
I can't tell wether you have an XBox 360 or not. If you have, I'd hold on to your PS3 and have the best of both worlds. Also, you may get games that play better on PS3 than they do on the 360 later on. If you only have the PS3 then you are hardly screwed over. You still have GTA IV and the you'll be able to play the same future releases as the 360. Either way, I'm sure the PS3 will give you loads of great gaming hours. And anyway, at least you have a peace of hardware that doesn't cook itself to death. ![]() |

Re: PS3 a good investment?
It has the Blu Ray movie disc player so saves money in that term now that there is only one HD format. There will always be exclusives between the consoles. Now though that they are going cross platform I personally feel it is better for us as consumers. We don't have to buy both consoles anymore to play just a specific game.
Its no bad thing owning a PS3, I own the 360 with HD Drive but am considering a PS3 for just movies. Have to see how much the Blu Ray players come down to in price first though. |
