    Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

Hey guys - first of all, I'm posting here because it's multi-platform, but feel free to move it .

I want to get a guitar hero type game for my PS3, but I don't know which one.

Which is "better" - guitar hero or rock band?

I know guitar hero only has a guitar while rock band has the set, but I'd probably only make use of the guitar anyway and would rather not pay for a full set.

Should I buy now, or wait for the next in the series (I heard rock band II will be out soonish)?

Which has the most/best songs that will be supported for the longest?

Any differences in the guitars? Which is best?

From what I hear GH:World Tour has drums that are compatible with Rock Band so I'll be getting that and picking up Rock Band 2 on its own, I really don't have room for two sets of plastic drums tbh

Re: Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

I love both games although i have been spending alot more time playing rock band as of late, there is so much high quality DLC available for the game compared to GH3 (although this now has the amazing "Guitar Virtuoso" pack

I prefer the Guitar mechanics on GH3 over Rock Band due to the lax nature of the HO and PO system compared to Rock Bands tight and accurate HO/PO system.

Guitar Hero is alot harder that Rock band for the Guitar though in my opinion as i didn't fail a single song on expert guitar on rock band where on Guitar Hero 3 it took me a while to pass "Raining Blood" and to beat the devil in the boss battle (and i've also recently beat "TtFatF" YAY!! lol)

I would for the time being recommend buying GH3 with the guitar then buying Rock Band separately as the GH3 guitar works on Rock Band so it will save you alot of money

Re: Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

OK, well I'm definatly not planning on buying both. It's pretty much one or the other unless I decide I MUST get the other one too...

If there's more DLC in rock band, then perhaps that's the better option? But then again, rock band 2 is just around the corner, so I'm guessing that the latest guitar hero might be more 'future proof' (if such a term exists for gaming software)?

Re: Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

As fonzo says, the guitar in GH3 is much better than that of Rock Band - Rock Band's main focus seems to be the other peripherals.

Rock Band has more DLC by far though.

Maybe worthwhile seeing if a local shop (Not a Virgin or what have you, but independant retailer) will let you play a couple songs of each, see what you prefer.

But surely Rock band 2 will be compatible with Rock band 1 instruments, therefore you will only need to buy the £40odd game upgrade and have fun with 1 while your waiting

This is probably the best advice to take if you plan on buying all the instruments as they WILL be compatible with RB2

BUT if you plan on just playing Guitar then get Guitar Hero 3 with the guitar as it is compatible with Rock Band also so you can just buy the Rock band game on its own at a later date

If you haven't played them before and definitely only want one, I'd probably go for GH3.

If you haven't played any before and get GH3, expect hurted fingers by the end of the day... mine still hurt from 5-6 hrs yesterday

And there was me expecting being a (bass) guitar player would help me loads lol

EDIT: Remember to take breaks, no matter how much you're pwning! I've got blisters from repeated bashing of the fret buttons, and I've only had it 3 days!
